Upon consulting a doctor, she was told, "Miss, you have a-cute appendicitis." "Oh, thank you, doctor," was her delighted reply. THE WEEK'S PARTIES In spite of midsemesters and all the rainy weather re cently, fun and parties still go on. KA's honored former Governor Ellis Arnall of Georgia at a drop-in Monday night after his lecture in Drayton Hall. The party was held at Beach Brooker's home and among the guests was Dr. Frank Owens. Delta Taus and Independents gave an informal dance at the House of Peace last Saturday night. After the game in Orangeburg Friday KA's gathered at a party given for them by Bobby Osborne. Twelve couples had a KA week. end houseparty at Johnny Jumper's Friday through Sun day. Chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Priester. Sigma Chis housepartied at Edisto last weekend. Pi Phis enter tained at their bi-monthly drop-in last Sunday night; Chi 0 coffee hour will be given this Sunday. Last week's parties included an informal dinner Thurs day night given by Kappa 'Sigma while SAE's entertained in the rathskellar. Monday night PiKA's held a stag sup. per at the Market restaurant to celebrate after winning trophies in the homecoming and Clemson display contests. Wednesday night the Delta Zetas gave a drop-in honoring ATO's, and on Sunday Pi Kappa Phis and Tri Deltas had breakfast and attended church together. Pi Phi actives en tertained their pledges with a barn dance Thursday of last week. VISITS ON AND OFF CAMPUS ,Last week's visitors to Carolina included Rocky Mason, Sigma Chi, who was stationed here while in the navy; ATO Dennis Tuck, who is now at flight officers' school in Pensa cola; and Dave Hardy, PiKA at the University of Alabama. SAE's Gary Edwards, Dick Brasington, Jerry Davis, and Nat Fant went to Durham last Saturday for the Duke-Mis souri game. Among those planning to go to Durham for our game with the Blue Devils Saturday are Bob Wilson, Sigma Nu; Sigma Chis Joe Bishop, Billy Lattimore, Chick Shiels, and Lou Proctor; Betty Goodwin and Gladys Jdhnson, who will visit Peggy Trexler, DZ alum; Elaine Welbourne, Margie McCorkle, and Jean Serio, ChiO. About thirty mem bers of PiKA will leave here at noon today to visit their chapter at Duke. Ross (Gabby) Higgins, PIKA, was married to Jerry Thompson of Columbia recently. PLEDGES AND INITIATION Next Tuesday night at initiation ceremonies Cookie Cox and Dot Griffith will become new active members of Chi Omega. "Home and Family Life" Course Now Offered At USC By BETTY ANN PUTNAM Because of a definite need on every university campus, a "Home and Family Life" class has been organized at Carolina, giving two hours' credit. In the spring this will become a three hour course. The purpose of this elective is to give a better understanding of marriage and life. The divorce rate has been increasing and it is believed a class in marriage will help to cut divorces down. Under the auspices of the Homemaking department it gives a well-round ed insight into the various phases of home life. Some of these phases are family relationship, feeding and care of children, budgeting, investments, recreation, and religion. Departments helping with this course are Economics, Bible, Uni versity Architectures, Political Science, Art, Music, Physical Education, Psychology and So ciology. Choice of spring electives will be made soon and Mrs. Louise Cole will be glad to talk with you and further explain "Home and Family Life." Only juniors, se niors, or married students, both men and women, are offered this course. Annual KSK Bridge Tournament Will Be Held December 16 Kappa Sigma Kappa, honor service fraternity at the univer sity, will hold its annual Bridge Tournament December 16 in the naval armory on the campus, it was announced by Bob Isbell, pub licity chairman. Members of the fraternity have already made plans and are ex pecting to solicit prizes from Co lumbia merchants to be awarded to the winners in the tournament. James McCallum, president of the organization, said today that everyone is eligible and is invited to play in the tournament. Sophomore "Y" Sponsors Canteen The Sophomore council of the University YMCA and YWCA is sponsoring a Friday night cam pus canteen, It was announced by Marguerite Webb, reporter of the social committee. The canteen's opening night will be November 21 on the sec ond floor of Flinn Hall from 8:00 p. m. to 11:00 p. m. It will be open house for everyone with dancing and cards for entertain ment. We are printing it in its entirety for your consideration. Dear Students: The members of the Boosters Club have gotten together and talked about a big two-day dance in the spring. It would be on Friday and Saturday night, with a tea dance on Saturday after noon from two until fivo (really serve tea? ? ? ?) This dance would only be open to 700 students, thus: first come first served.
