Gamecocks Pull In Row As Mia "Upsets" are becoming a habit i with Carolina's gridsters. For .he third week in a row the Game :ocks have gone into a game fav )red to lose, and for the third time they have come out on top, just as they did against Furman and Clemson. Miami university was supposed to beat the Birds in tAe Orange Bowl Friday night, but Cpach En right's forces played the Hurri canes right off their feet and came out with an 8-0 victory be fore 30,000 spectators, about half of whom showed partiality to Carolina. The Gamecocks scored the first time Miami got the ball. Killoy's fine kick forced the 'Canes to run out from behind their goal, which they did for about two yards. Attempting to run on first down Inpaychock was tackled be hind the goal by Bobby O'Harra, and the Birds took a 2-0 lead on the first play of the game. The game's only touchdown was made in the third quarter. Al Faress recovered a Miami fumble on the Hurricane 27, and Strick land, DeLoach and Giles punched their way to the three. Three plays later Bobby Giles plowed over for the score, which clinched the victory for the Gamecocks. The 'Canes were not without their offensive moments, however. Only a stubborn Carolina line and heads-up pass defense kept the Miamians from scoring in the first half. The Birds stopped their opponents at the 11-yard line on one occasion and at the 16 later in the second quarter. It was difficult to single out individual stars; all the Game cocks made their contributions to ward winning the game. Bishop Strickland again led the ground gainers, but Giles and Couch were not far behind.
