USC Ring Chick'en In The Rough By CHICK SHIELS The University of South Carolina found itself the prow possessor of an All-America gridman the other day. Bryai Adams Meeks, Jr., a Macon (Ga.) Mighty, was voted by ti Associated Press (which has the final say in All-Americ selections) to fill their second string center berth. This a fine choice as many in this neck of the woods will avov Meeks, who came here last year as a Naval Trainee, begs with a bang under the watchful eyes of Johnny McMilla and Allen Shi and did such a notable job in all departmenl that he finally stole the show this season and copped the A honors. The six foot, 185 pounder has repeatedly shown hi mettle. The season's record cannot give evidence to Junior prowess but each and every one of us who sat by and gat] ered in the outcomes will remember the brilliant brand i battle that he put forth. We are very glad to see the cred where credit is due, especially in this case. When a about next year and what will come in regard to a finale f collegiate football Junior only said, "I don't really have an plans now." As a committee of one, we would like to si "the big man" over that pigskin for Rex next fall. The we will have an All-America FIRST STRINGER. Just a word, off of the record, about Mrs. Meeks' pride ar joy. He devotes most of his time to football, when in seaso That's for sure!! Turns a fine hand at Basketball and Bas ball, along with being'a member of Blue Key, KSK, Executi' council of the Cotillion Club, Block "C" Club and other ou fits. From the amateur's standpoint, it looks like he fil many bills, and capably. Junior Meeks takes our vote for being a fine fellah and real All-American. It seems that a few weeks ago we made a giaring misc1 in our editorial (?, that's a big question mark.) laboi Through some quirk of fate the copy came off the press reading that one gentleman, by name Kirby Higbe, was nc a St. Louie product. That blunder deserves immediate a tion. Monsieur Higbe works with the Brooklyns, who h. from the Flatbush area. Not too recently have we noti where he has put time in for the Redbirds! To the quii of thought we apologize for the error. Intermural (that's inside the walls, oh-h-h-h) Football h1 come upon us out of almost nowhere. The various Greek I ter lads and other elevens have been chewing up Melt Field to a hearty tune of late. It looks like the going rough in all encounters from what we have seen on t1 campus. Many battered faces, noses, and other articles the torso are in prominence. The men are giving their for the cause and we will try to do better in covering t] individual bouts. That's a promise. It was mentioned the other PM, by a reliable source, th some of the Clemson College students flatly believed that t] "incident" occurring at the half, some weeks ago, was ins gated by Carolina Cheerleaders. The report went on to s that some of the Tiger Clan honestly believed that a cheer sent the chicken onto the field just to see what would ha pen. May we assure the Clemson men that it was ni planned, prior to game time! If it had been that way, a know one ladI, and quite well, who would have caught t) next dog sled out of town for Lu-Lu Island and let "the re of the world (and fists) go by."
