.,Alpha Delta Ramb/i 'A'llrond by Mary Helen Shawhan Got the ink, got the pen, got the feeling I'm pretty dumb causb that inspiration just doesn't come. Therefore I'll just write a column. Harriet Cohen, AE Phi, has a lovely new diamond given to her by her fiance (naturally) Bill Gottlieb. Chi O's national visitor, Jane MacDonald, came,on Mon day and the sisters gave a drop-in for her Tuesday after noon. Pi Phi's delegate to the first national conference in five years will be Jane Lanier. with Mary Shoun as alternate. The conference will be held June 23-29 at New Ocean House in Swampscott, Mass. Virginia Williams, Jo Seideman and Dottie Perkins will also represent the Alpha chapter. Delta Zetas have a big Mother's tea coming off from 5 to 7 in the room Sunday. Alums, actives, pledges and their moth ers, and all patrons are cordially invited. Big plans are also being made for the big dance on the 31st. They say it's going to be so wonderful that it will knock the campus right off its feet. The Sigma Chi's really had a big time at the party last Saturday. Some went boating, and I hear there are stumps in that lake, while others had a good time fishing and swim ming. Bob Weber was the hero of the day . . . he caught a #* fish. Griffith sang and Joe Sapp and Neil Luedke did too. The brothers all though the pledges did themselves right proud. Fred Holler, Jim Sheridan, and Vernon Sloan were recent visitors to the chapter. SAE pledges are giving a big old swimming and such par ty for their actives out at Hunt's estate this Saturday. It starts at 4 and, they say, will go on into the night. The Kappa Sigs had a mucho good party at Sesqui last Thursday. *Everybody went and soaked up much a . . . sun shine . . . yes that was the word I was trying to think of and had a simply wonderful time. The Lambda Chi dance last Friday was a big success from all reports. Miss Jeanne Cannon was chosen the Sweetheart of Lambda Chi. The houseparty at Myrtle Beach wvas simply out of this world according to the brothers and it must have been because there were 45 people there and I always say the ore the merrier. The P1 Kappa. Phi's had a visit recently from brother Dwight Holder due to the state Democratic convention. Also President John Holland was just recently operated on for appendicitis and we are all most happy to report that he is doing fine. 'He is at the Baptist hospital. The swimming par ty given for the actives by the pledges last weekend was just wonderful they say, and everybody enjoyed themselves thor oughly. Pi K's had an all day party Saturday out at Gibson's Pond and the people I talked to said they had .ust tons of good food and a bang up old good time. If anybody wants to know where the IA's are the week end, just look around Myrtle Beach cause you're mighty lia ble to see quite a few. Did you hear the story of the "Seven Parefoot Boys?" If you haven't ask Dumas or Joe Reintjes cause its a pretty good story. They say everybody makes mistakes and I'm sure I make a more than my share . . . one that I happened to make last issue was getting the Phi Sigqn mixed up with the Phi Kaps. The story was about the PI SIGS and I'm awfully sorry boys, I'll try not to do it again. Girls . . .don't be sur'prised if youi hear a little bell ring ing along the halls about 11:00 some night because it will be a reminder that it's time to go to Vespers which the Y Council has dlecided will be*held once a week in the girls' dorm ito rieCs. Four students of the junior class of the department of music will be presented: Dorothy Prasey and Elizabeth Stewart, pianists; Bur ton Wilds, soprano and Ralph Ro zier, organist. Dorothy Phasey is secretary of the Vespers committee, secretary of the assembly committee, vice president of the YWCA and is a member of Co-Ed Association and Delta Zeta sorority. Elizabeth Stewart transferred to the I'n iversity this year from I.mest 01 Coilege. She is on the council of the Women's Athltic Association and is a member of the YWCA. She belongs to Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Burton Wilds is vice president of the Women's Glee Club and wvas former secretary of Zeta Tai Alpha sorority, and is also a member of YWCA. Ralph Rozier has often been heard in recitals at the University and in Columbia. lie is organist at one of the ColumIa churches aad has appeared as soloist with the University Orchestra. These unusual facts are even more unusual when the whole story is viewed. This vetetan (whose name is un known to the GAMECOCK staff) got into a conversation with Leo Traynor, Sr., of Columbia. From that conversation, the veteran learned that Mr. Traynor was an ardent yachtsman on his way to Charleston. It also developed that Mr. Traynor was lacking a hoat swain's whistle of the type carried by the veteran. When Mr. Traynor Irie-d to bor row the whistile, the veteran ex plained how highly he treasuret the whistle, and that he was unable to lend it. Mr. Tiaynor, it seems, had a pen and pencil set that he tieasured highly, and so the swap was effected. Now Mr. iTraynor has returned from Charleston and no longer needs the whislle. Instead, it seems that he needs his pen and pencil set. But in his haste to get to Charleston, he didn't get the vet eran s name. So-o-o-o-, if anybody knows the whereabouts of said character, please notify him to contact the cashier at the Parkway Grill. Don't ask me why. Fight Song Contest Closes; Judges Chosen Ann Boyle. YMCA secretary, has been selected by members of Kappa Sigma Kappa to replace Joyce Hel zel as one of the judges in the Uni versity of South Carolina fight song contest. Robert Van Doren, of the depart. ment of music, was selected as an alternate judge, to serve in place of any judge who is unable to serve.
