Smith may have gone to Wash ington, but the YW's president Brooksie did him one better because "Miss Marshall went to New York." Just how much of a dent Brooksie made in the big city is unknown, but of New York's assets, she has a hulging vocabulary of words. "1 had the most wonderful time ! There's no place quite like it." The President of the YWCA left the last of June to attend the Presi dent's Summer School at Columbia University sponsored by The National Intercollegiate Christian Council. For six weeks Brooksie studied probleis in'religion, industry, and social move nents. To add color and interest to these courses, tours were taken to snch points as International ilouse, the Rowery. Chinatown. I arlem, National Headquarters of Stndent YMCA and YWCA. Then under her breath Br,oksic ad mitted that she did some touring of her own. "I got to see Oklahoma and a conplc of other play,." ''1've never seen six svceks go by so fast. We had to study and hard. Ve went to classes from eight to three. In the afternoons all of us had jobs. I never could quite see the con nection. but me being a journalism student they let me do sonic filing. Sometimes when I think back my con science hurts me about those files. They were so healthy before 1 started. Yep, it was hard but it was worth it. "We had a wonderful faculty but in addition to our own teachers we had visiting professors from other schools. Miss Fern Babeoek, formerly a national student secretary of the VWCA, Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick, t;eorge A. Ruttrick. Mrs. Roosevelt, and )r. Lister Pope vei-re a few of our speakers.
