Mrs. Haynes writes vividly of earlier days on the campus. 1900 -1919 Frank Gary Vance, '11A, of Co lumbia, has been elected president of the Columbia Printers' Club. Mr. Vance is connected with The State Company. Maj. Frank Capers Owens, '19A, formerly a Columbia physician, now in the Army Medical Corps, has been commended by two com manding officers for his work in saving the lives of several civilians after a train wreck near Fairfax, Va. Major Owens was a student at Carolina under the Army Training Program during the first World War, receiving his degree just be fore the end of the conflict. 1920- 1929 Rufus Rivers Clarke, '25L, for merly of Estill, has assumed his duties as president of the Columbia Bank for Co-operatives. Mr. Clarke has been connected with the Fed eral Land Bank of Columbia since 1932, having been vice president and treasurer of that organization. Lieut. Edward Alcide Robinson, '7A, of Rowesville, is now ad dressed through the Army Post Office, New York, N. Y. Lieut. Herman Dewey McCarley, USNR, '20A, of Columbia, is ad dressed through the Fleet Post Of fice, San Francisco, Calif. James Ernest Leppard, '21L, president of the Alumni Associa tion, has recently been appointed by Gov. Olin D. Johnston, '23G, 24L, a member of the South Caro lina Preparedness for i'eace Com mission. Mr. Leppard, who is state senator from Chesterfield county, succeeds Richard Manning Jeffer ies, '10A, who resigned. Robert Richardson Coker, '28A, of Hartsville, president of the South Carolina Farm Credit Bu reau, addressed a meeting of nearly 200 extension workers at a meeting at Clemson College Aug. 19. 1930- 1939 Lieut. (j.g.) Walter S. Rowe, Jr., 33C, of Bennettsville, who is a pilot in the Naval Air Transport Service, is stationed at Seattle, Wash. Lieut. George Henry Davis, '31C, '34L, of Columbia, who was re cently sworn into the Marines as a second lieutenant, is now addressed at 9th Basic Class, A Bks., ACOS, MB, Quantico, Va. While Lieuten ant Davis, who was a Columbia attorney, is in the service, legal matters of the office are being handled by Louie Fleming (Bud) Lanford, 44L. Capt. Robert Love Moore, '35A, of Aiken, is a patient in a South 'Pacific Hospital. Capt. Moore, who served for a year at Guadalcanal with the army medical corps, was a Columbia physician before enter ing the service. John Francis Killea, '36J, of Oswego, N. Y., has been promoted to the rank of Captain. He is at tached to army intelligence in Washington, D. C. Captain Killea is addressed at 1430 Belmont street, N.W., Washington. Capt. Edgar N. Sullivan, '36A, of Stateburg and Columbia, is now addressed through the Postmaster, New York. Captain Sullivan in. terned at the Mcl4eod Infirmary in Florence before volunteering for the armed service. John Mansfield Coulter, '38A, of Columbia, has been pronmoted to the rank of major. Major Coulter is stationed at Boca Raton, Fla. Pic. Albert Rufus Morgan, Jr., '37A, of Hendersonville, N. C., who is with an engineering battalion, is now addressed through the Army Post Office, New York. Maj. William Coleman Sylvan, '38A, of Columbia, is senior aide to Lieut.-Gen. Courtney H. Hodges, in command of the American First Army in France. Before being se. lected by General Hodges to serve as aide, Major Sylvan was an in. structor at Fort Benning, Ga. His twin brother, Johannes Bengston Sylvan, Jr., '38C, is a private in the army ground forces at Lowry Field, Denver, Colo. S/Sgt.
