I Frosh Views Coed Life A skidding shoe, a solid whack, and a belated sriek-groan-scream usher in the summer term at Wade Hampton as one of the how-green wve-are freshman girls goes sliding along our nice waxy parlor (note that word) floor. But we've found more things than that around the dorm to make us -really sit up (or should I say dIownI') and take notice. First, to every one of us thirty two \Vade Ilanipt('n freshman, cul lege is something new and big that we've never experiencel the like of before. Just being a part of the University and having that yes-in a-Carolina-girl feeling is wonderful. We frosh have already learned to appreciate that, h'lieve me. And after that comes this definite ly different (ormnitorv life. IIone was tever like this!!! We rise to clanging alarmi clocks, liefty tugs, or generous applications of cold water, and the rush is on. Showers :nd breakfast for the thirty-two conldlt't he wvhat-they are anywhere but here. And then there's the fran tic attempt to clean the rooms he fore inspection. (No, we're still in 1lampton. It mtight he Preston, etc., huh boys?). Anyt person who would he kind enough to start a class in how to get it done in less than nothing flat may apply for the joh at the W. It. ofsice! Our hectic days of trying to beat it back to the dorm between classes to get that book we forgot we had to use on Thursdays aren't over yet, and Wade Hampton's winding Stairs, slippcr floor , and peoplc going in the (ther direction aren't anly helei thher. \\e dah ar onnd1 all lay long it 'eetmS aceidentally rtnnnittng ini that Sim jtior. purpoely manag ing to neet that good-looking Caro' lina guy (I'in not sure whether it's the one in civvies or the other one in some kind of Navy uniform), and straining every possible muscle tc get to classes no sooner than on time. We freshmen students then study diligently for fifty minutes and finally. after much persuasion on the part of the professor, leave the class. But night brings peace, quiet, rest, and relaxation to all three floors of W. H. Between our stttdy ing, running to Sims for a coke, studying, visiting, and studying, we manage to keep husy, with three nights a week worth of fut, which seems to be plenty-in the eyes of tle high authoritie!. 1u"t look at me now.
