* TOO LATE TO CLASSIFY
The V-12 baseball team will joutrory this weekend to New
berry to meet the V-12 team from Newberry College. The New
berry team has done quite well in the state this s111son and will
be no snap for the U. S. C. Navy. On Sunday afternoon at 3:00
on Davis field the V-12 team will come up against the 345th in
fantry regiment's team. The 345th recently squeezed out a one
to nothing victory over the 87tht division who mauled the Navy
so badly last Saturday when the infield collapsed. With an eye
toward indirect revenge, the Navy team will be out. for a win
and it should develop into a fierce battle.
* HIT THE TARGET!
In a recent match the NROTC rifle team outshot. in every
position to send down into oblivion the Duke University NROTC
rifle team by a score of 898 to 756. Robert Dicks, captain of
the Carolina team, shot a total of 191 to maittain his 190 aver
age. Every man on the Carolina team handed in a higher score
than the top man on the Duke team.
Lt. Commander R. V. Baldwin is the olicer in charge of the
rifle team.

Victory Of Season
''hc University of South Carolina
Navy V-12 baseball team last Sun
day blasted the Columbia Air Base
Eagles for five runs in the seventh
inning and then staved off an Eagle
rally to nip the fliers 6-5 at the air
base field.
Al Altaffer received credit for his
first victory of the year when Nick
Nicholson turned in a splendid job
of relief hurling; Whitey Gleason
rapped out three hits to lead the
Navy hitters and Russ Bernstein
and Curly Kuldall hit for two safe
ties apiece.
The Navy took the lead in the
second inning when Kuldall, Trus
heim, and Gleason bunched three
singles together. The Eagles how
ever tied the score in the same in
ning on Bonnevals single and a
long double by Seitenreich. For the
next four innings Altaffer and
Kreps locked in a pitchers duel,
allowing only two hits apiece.
Trusheim was hit by a pitched
ball in the beginning of the seventh
and taking advantage of two walks
and an error, Gleason and Suttle
singled and Kuldall doubled to put
the Navy ahead 6-1.
An Eagle rally in their half of the
same inning scored four runs on
three. hits and three walks and was
cut short when Nicholson came to
Altatfer's rescue. Nicholson fin
ished the game setting the Eagles
down in order.
Shortstop Seitenreich of the
1-'agles and Catcher Bob Noble of
the Navy played outstanding de
fensive ball.

Brown Clowns Capture
American League Title
Will Meet Winner Of National
Pennant In Softball World Series
The Brown Clowns of Tenement 28 clinched the American softball
league pennant last Monday night when they cked out, a meager 2-1
victory over the Tenement 15 Rangers in an exciting extra inning game.
Wood of the Rangers pitched a superb game, fanning nine and allow
ing only three hits, two of which came in the last inning and proved to
be the winning margin. The game was nip and tuck all the way with
each team leaving men stranded on the bases in each stanza. Wood
pitched himself out of a tight spot in the fifth inning when the "Clowns"
had the bases loaded with none out, and failed to score,
The National League race must now be decided to see who will meet
the "Clowns" in the World Series.
