Kearse, '9EL, Bamberg attorney and former member of the State House of Representatives, died October 14 in the Tri-County Hospital at Bamberg after a brief illness. He had served as city and county attorney attd -was .speaker pro tern of 'tlic House of Represen tatives in 1931-S2. A veteran of the first World. War, he was .com mander of the Bamberg County Post of the American Legion at the time of his death. IHe wa a Mason, trustee' of Trinity Methodist Church, Bamberg,.and past president of his Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mate Dantzler Kearse; two sons, Faber Kearse, Jr., and Olin Dantzler Kearse; his mother, Mrs. Mildred Kearse; three brothers, Senator James Carl Kearse, '16L, of Bamberg; George L'. DARGAN, '09A Woods Dargan, '09A, Darlington, died October 22. Born in Darling ton March 30, 1887, he received his education at St. John's School, the Danville Military *Institute of Vir ginia, the University of South Car ': olina, Eastman's Business Col lege (Poughkeepsie, N. Y.), and Georgetown University (Wash ' ington, D. C.). In his early life, he was a court stenographer, later practicing law with his father, the late William Frank fln Dargan, in Darli ngton. Later, for- several years, he worked in New England and - the 'Middle West as represen tative of a publishing company. ' He returned to Darlington in 9 May, 1935, and since that time has been president of the Pee Dee Discount Corporation and of the Carolina Finance Company. During the first World War, he was a captain in the artillery, and later was commander of the Dar lington post of the American Le gion. IIe was organizer and first president of the Darlington County Historical Society, and was active in the development of the Negro branch of trbe Darlington Public Library. He was a past president of the Darlington Chamber of Com. merce. At the time of his death ie was a leader in activities of the Cit izen's Entertainment Committee which gives farewell suippers for D'arlingtoin inductees. From August 28, 1942, to the date of his death he was editor and pub lisher of the Chronicle, begun by him single-handed as a newspaper sent free each week to all Darling ton men and women in the armed forces. FRANKS, '42 Cpl. Charles Henderson Franks, '42A, son of Clyde T. Franks, '09A, and Mrs. Franks, of Lauirens, was killed in an aeroplane crash at Boco Raton Air Base, Docoj Raton, Fla., in July. Bobo, '92L, native of Union pioneer resident of Tujunga, Calif., died in Altadena, Calif., Oc tober 12. Funeral services were con dhucted October 14 in the Wee Kirk o' the Ileathier, Forest Lawn Me morial Park, Tlujinga. Mr. Bobo, who went to California twenty-three years ago, was engaged for many years in the'real estate business on the WVest Coast. Sutvivinag relatives include his widow, Mrs. Mary Z. B3obo; a daughter, Mrs. Georgiana M. Aiton; a' sister, Mrs. Fannie Gaines and a brother, Robert Bobo. CARTER, '05L Jesse Francis Carter, '05L, as sociate justice of the South Carolina Suprente Court, died at his home in Batberg November 5. Stricken about six years ago, he had never fully recovered, lIe had been criti cally ill for several days. As a law student at the Univer sity, lie was active in forensics par ticipating in debating and repre senting the University in the South ern Intercollegiate Oratorial coin. test. He was elected to the State Senate in 1925, and in 1927 he was elected to the Supreme Court. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lydia Jenkins Carter; three daugh ters, Miss Frances Carter, '32s, Mrs. F. B. Kirkland, and Mrs. J. J. " Cleckley; and three brothers, Solici tor Berte Dean Carter, '10L, of Bamberg, M. J. Carter of Florence, Ala., and W. L. Carter of Greens boro, N. C. DELOACHE, '26G Meta DeLoache, '26G, native of Camden, died in Patterson, N. J., October 27 after a brief illness. Miss DeLoache was born near Camden January 8, 1894, and was graduated from Winthrop College, later taking post-graduate work at Columbia University, Peabody Institute and the University of South Carolina. She taught for several years in the Columbia City Schools, and in 1927 went to New Jersey as dietitian at a stmmer camp for underprivileged children. At the time of her death, she was executive se.retary of the Passaic County (N. J.) Anti-Tuber culosis and health League. She is survived by her father. Wi!liam El liott DeLoache. Hampton (Mary DeLoache), '30J, of Columbia. WEEKS, '92G Clarence Douglas Weeks, '92G, died at Newberry Hospital Novem ber S after an illness of two weeks. A native of Clarendon County, he had been a resident of Newberry since 1895. le was a meiber of the Newberry drug firm of Gilder and Weeks, a member of the board of trustees of the Newberry schools, vice-president of the Newberry Fed eral Loan Association, and senior warden at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. MOORMAN, '99A Joseph James Moorman, '99A, died at the Columbia llbspital No vember 9 from injuries he received from a fall the night before. Mr. Moorman was a certified public ac countant and was licensed to prac tice in South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina. He was a member of the Columbia Club, Columbia Cotillion, and Momus Club of New Orleans. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Mac Cutts of Augusta, Ga., three brothers, C.
