Hedden Lines By HELEN HEDDEN *Question of the Week: "What did your parents say about your grades?" Answer: "I may be out of the dog-house in time for the house party-" Or in time for Christmas, according to the grades-At least we won't go home this year with an un-known fate hanging over our heads-maybe they will have forgotten the worst by the time we turn up at the family domicile sometime during the holidays. * Spring Song this week was "Stormy Weather" as the north wind tore around corners and uplifted those new spring hats-and skirts-House parties are the biggest topic for discussion-the KA's are completing plans for theirs at Myrtle Beach, and according to rumors they won't be alonc down thepe-It's an old institution, and though the war may cut down attendance, house parties will go on as long as there's a Carolina. * Spring Cleaning and Arbor Day have already taken hold-Frank Wardlaw was sc inspired by the plan that he had his office papered and painted, and cleaned up so thoroughly that even his secretary doesn't recognizc the place-Which leads us to remind some of our friends that they had better start cleaning early to be able to pass inspection on Arbor Day-We know: that's exactly what we're having to do. * Picnicking is popular now-The KD's toasted marshmallows et cetera out a Senator Hammond's Monday night, and the Tri Deltas will do likewisc Saturday, iffen the weather proves satisfactory-And don't forget the student body picnic grounds-If you don't know exactly where it is, her.e- are rough instructions: Go down Pickens in back of Sims (certainly everybody knows the way so far) and turn left at the foot of the hill in a minute you'll see the people meandering around, unless, of course you're an oily boid, in which case you're strickly on your own. * Five Brothers will be added to the Sigma Nu active list Sunday afternoon: Billy Mann, Charlie Wickenberg, Zan Heyward, Jimmy Wideman, and Benjie Knowlton-The Sigma Chi's initiated Hugh Bryson last week. end, and he left for the army Monday-Two visitors were preserit for th( initiation ceremony-Private Bieneman of the University of Michigat Chapter, and George Hibbard of Washington University-Bienemar also attended the Sigma Chi party at Sims Park Tuesday night Speaking of the army (aren't we always!) Maynor Hardee reported tc Fort Jackson Wednesday for induction. * Rushin' Around: Polly Califf and Jo Robinson went to West Point, and reported all'i well with the future generals-To Citadel this weekend for the hop Iope Turner, Hazel Howell, Carolyn Bunch, Peanut Rahner, Met. War Volunteers Service Bureau This week, the guide is featuring the nurses' aide corps, which is one of the most valuable service girls caji render, say Red Cross officials. Those who take this course, are given 45 hours of instruction, and learn how to do simple, but needed tasks such as: how to make up a bed- the hospital way; how to bathe a sick person; how to change a bed, with a patient in it; and other ser vices. Ilaving finished the course, the aides take 40 hours of lab work at the hospitals. This consists of ac tually doing all the things they are taught. They feed patients, make up beds, fill water pitchers, write letters, give shampoos, read aloud, run er rands . . . and in general do just what their title says: aid nurses. On duty they wear very attractive uniforms, sky-blue denim jumpers, white shirtwaists, and light blue dutch caps. These are sold to the aides by the Red Cross at a minimum price. Upon completion of the training, the aides are given their official Red Cross pins, and arm, and hat insig nia, and begin their actual volunteer work. They pledge themselves to give 150 hours of service a year until the war ends. This service is to be given at any official hospital in the United States, and the hours can be worked out to suit the aide. They can give it all in a month's time, or spread it out over 12 months. Spread out, this would mean about three hours a week given to the war effort. And for every few nurse's aide, a regular army nurse can go to our boys overseas. Call the Red Cross headcluaiiri and sign up for this or some other service TODAY. keep the cup permanently. The girs will have a new cup, the old one having been won by Delta Delta Delta sorority for the last three years. A small admission will be charged to the audience, and all proceeds will go into the AKG loan fund. SAXON CU Yk L.
