SARAH FLINN * And So Victory . . . This week is as hectic as the proverbial headless chicken. Only in thi case it'll be a headless tiger-well, won't it? . . It's kinda like a chocolat sundae. If you don't consume it all, you'll feel melancholy, but if you tak4 it all in, you'll be very moby-dick. (A Citadel idiom meaning not-so-well at-the-stumick.) Comes the game, comes the dances, comes the dawn, come an eight o'clock class, come, come, my dear watson, we get a holiday afte that victory, remember? * * * 9 Laugh And Play . . . To read this column one would think most Carolina students did nothinj but be gay. Well? . . The ATO's celebrated with a banquet at Harvey' recently. It was a pledge-active-alumni affair and very nice . . the Sigm, Nu's enjoyed their frolic last Saturday so much they are dittoeing it agail tonight . . the SAZ members and dates played Thursday at a weiner roast very gala. Especially the initiation of new members when George Halse (Summa-Cum-to-be) outwitted the wits . . the SAE's took over the sand pits Saturday. What? No KA's? . . the Chi 0 lassies danced for thei pledges next Tuesday night, and the ZTA's honored theirs last Tuesday by the way, they tried a new wrinkle and asked the pledge presidents of th other sororities. Wasn't that friendly? . . The Tri-Delta pledges will b feted at a dance next Tuesday week, and it, too, will be lovely-(that last dear reader, was what is commonly known as a plug). * * * * Little Fraternity Pin New KA shields are shining on some manly chests these days: Johnn Dieter, Cooper McEachern, Don McKellar, Vicky Johns, and James Smitl . . and the KD's gave Jane Brooks Marshall the second degree of initiatioi Sunday. The initiation (third degree?) will be in two weeks . . nev ATO pledge officers are: Charlie Vermont, president; John Bultman, vice president; Charlie Aultman, secretary . . the Pi Kappa Phi pledge leader are: Jay Hammett, president; Jimmy McInvail, vice-president; Marcu Smith, secretary; James Swofford, treasurer; and the Kappa Sig pledge elected: Marius Welles, president; Harper Leonard, vice-president; Davi< Crockett, secretary; Ted Wiles, treasurer. * * * e And Still More Activities . . . Another weiner roast-(is that what you're calling your "picnics" thi year?) Anyhow, the Pi Kappa Phi's enjoyed this one last Thursday . and speaking of them, they're practicing up to make some WAACs might) good husbands. Their rooms are clean and shining, thanks to the re markable industry of the brothers . . the Chi 0 room is also beaming lik( a newly-wed, since its cleanup campaign . . the Phi Epsilon Pi group de veloped a little friendly rivalry between the actives and pledges with bowling match, with steaks as stakes. The pledges 'trounced the active! and will be the guests at the steak-stake supper soon . . the ZTA's have beer buzzing around with their founders' day banquet Thursday at the Hote Columbia, and a kiddie party Friday . . the Delta Zeta's are planning thei ofounders' day celebration Saturday . . and the Pi-K-A's are so entrance( with their lurvely new piano, of which three notes play, that they almos forget the way to Sims. I SAID almost. * * * Imagine This . . . Emily Wolfe, Georgia Warren, Nora Walsh, and Rhett Witte are goinj to the dances at ANNAPOLIS this week-end. "What, and miss the game? she asked enviously . . Kate Bull is another FIRST. Shc's Columbia's fir messenger boy-girl. Bicycle, pants, singing, telegrams and all . . if wishe were horses, I'd ride one that had blue eyes like Dean Frierson . . or mayb Joyce Hetzel . . or Isobel McCants . . and wouldn't it be nice to have purple, velvet voice like Betty Jo League . . and Elizabeth George sound like unrationed sugar, even when she's reading spelling words. * * " * Paging Patriotism So the Carolino co-ed weeps copiously when her boy goes off to the wa .so she holds up her chin and is noble . . so what? So nothing. I wis these GALLANT girls would either put tip or shut up . . it's mighty color futl, the variety of yarns co-eds are knitting on . . but it'd be even more pleas ing if those garments-ini-the-making were olive drab to cover the back of a cold soldier instead of snuggle around the already warm backs of th knitting co-eds . . last year there were dozens of enthusiastic nurses' aide! I won't say howv many afternoons this year those co-eds go to the hospital insteadl of the movies-but it ain't nine hundred . .the canteens in Sims an Wade Hampton sell hundreds of dollars of tasty tidbits a month . . Defens stamps aren't unavailable, but we'd rather be fat than free, wouldn't w<4 (tears? . . it's little enough to ask that a score of co-eds cheer up the US( boys every now and then but it's near to impossible to get up such a crowv . . Ia, Ia, patriotism is a pretty wvord. * * * * Love, Honor, And Oh Boy... Libbie Lifchez has such a pretty ring-THAT kind, too! . . and Margi Edwvards, has joined the ranks of the took-en . . Sniff, sniff, our time wvi come . . Sadie Hawkins day next month . . I wish somebody wvould te me a howl of a joke so I could tell Cooper McEachern and Betty Cappk mann. They both have such attractive laughs . . Speaking of jokes, di you hear?: Co-edl: Somebody told me you were a wolf. Are you Donaldl Law: Nooooooooo (to he readl in a low howl) . . this week is happy time indeed . . Richard Orion Young is back visiting. I Study Hall Planned During Week Nights For Studious Coeds Plans for a voluntary study hall in Davis College, Monday through Fri day nights of every week were com pleted recently by a group of upper class girls in cooperation with Pan Ilellenic council. This plan was devised to provide I the best possible environment for t studying, because many girls have < complained about the noise in dor- s mitories. It was thought that in the quietness of Davis college co-eds would be able to accomplish more studying. Two upperclassmen will be in charge of the study halls to maintain order. They will also give individ ual help to those in need of aid. Freshman girls may leave Wade Hampton to attend these studly halls 4 and it will not be counted as using one of their dating privileges. After mid-semester this plan may be made compulsory.
