This afternoon, k( Ted Petoskey's baseballers start the week-end off in Tigertown F with their first diamond struggle with the Bengals this year. The Bangals held first place in the state at the beginning of the C week, but were knocked off the top rung of the state ladder by F ti the Presbyterian Blue Hose, who defeated the Tigers 12 to 11 t last Monday afternoon. d The Birds came through with their first victory in five games j' last Friday afternoon, when they gave the P. C. team their first s' State whipping this year by a 10 to 8 score. . Ray Player pitched t all nine innings for the Gamecocks, and did a fine job of holding p men on base in the pinch. T. Penney's e Carolina cindermen will face the Tigertown track crew in a dual meet, in a preview to the State meet next Friday and Saturday G. in Clinton. G The Birds are seeking their third straight state win of the ga year tomorrow when they meet the Bengals. Last week in " Charleston, the Birds continued their winning ways, when they walked away with The Citadel meet, 81 2-3 to 41 1-3. Wo Mac Riley, Carolina's ace dash man, continued undefeated this season in the 220 and 100-yard dash. Mac broke the State ar record in the 220-yard dash by running this event in the record time of 21.6, clipping three-tenths of a second from the old Jo record. This record will not be able to stand, for it wasn't made 9 in the State meet. "Scooter" Rucks set a new track record at The Citadel, when he ran the 440-yard dash in 50.3 seconds. ci The Brds ought to do well in the dashes tomorrow against the Bengals, but will fall down in the longer distance races. D, Krivonak should take the shotput, as he is still undefeated in 16 this event this year. Clemson rules the favorite in the pole vault, with state champion Fennell still vaulting for the Tigers. Al It should be a close meet, and with a little luck the Birds should 26 squeeze out a victory. Next week the Birds travel to Clinton where they will enter 40 the annual State meet. NETTERS OFF TO POOR START t* ut Carolina's netmen have had eight matches this season, and have so far eked out only one 4-3 victory over the College of tI( Charleston in the second match of the season. The Bird racket in wielders lost their first encounter of the court season to the Wofford Terriers, 4-1. In the next match, the Birds showed a Si reversal of form and defeated the Charlestonians 4-3.a Since that initial victory, the Carolina team has lost four ci matches by the shutout route. Captain Bert Hill is at the No. 2 position, while Jack Hatch, Oscar Mims and Gene Haynes make up the team in that order.
