OClTOBERP 22- 1q41t 'AS Army And Navy | Units Compete Squads Will Drill Before Game Time "The Clemson drill platoon and the Carolina Naval ROTC unit will be given an equal amount of time to march before the game Thursday," John A .Chase, Jr., dean of adminis tration of the University announced today. Both platoons will be given ten min utes in which to drill, Mr. Chase said. He explained that the traditional marching at the half had to be called off because of the equally traditional changing of sides of the governor and the president .of the state fair associ ation and the playing of both bands. A solution was reached when it was decided that the time immediately pre ceding the game be duetd to the drilling. The time set forlhe Clem son platoon to begin is 1:20 5. tn. The Clemson crack platoon has { been long known for its precision drilling and has been a feature of many a fair week classic. The University Naval ROTC unit will make .its bow to the public on Thursday. They will parade first to he Ciemson side, face the stands, give hand saiute and a cheer, ied by .n sign William Horger. The unit after saluting and cheer ing for Carolina, will file to seats in the'stands. The battalion is under the command of Lieutenant Commander W. A. Chalker of Columbia. KSK Calls For No Drinking At Game Letter Asks Clemspn To Cooperate In Movement Kappa Sigma Kappa, campus service organization, has alain re quested the cooperation ot noth the Carolina and Clemson student bodies in a letter asking that all students refrain from drinking at the annual game to be held Thursday. The letter, which was addressed to Cadet Colonel Kennon Breazeale of Clemson College, asked that the following resolution passed by KSK be printed in both The Tiger and The Gamecock: "In order to maintain an im proved general conduct at the Caro lina-Clemson game and at all other games, the student body of the Uni versity of South Carolina earnestly requests that all attendants refrain from drinking at the University Stadium." " Professor Derrick Goes To Nashville b e Economics Prof To Lead k Discussion At Meeting d Samuel Derrick, University eco - nomics professor, will attend the an nual meeting of the Southern Eco nomics Association, to be held at Nashville, Tenn., November 7 and 8. . The meeting will be attended by economists from southern institu tions. The purpose of the gathering is to discuss economic questions confronting the South at the present time. FO >G 1w Naval ROTC Arl mory Will Begin no Cost More Th Kramer Says Dance Df Social Cabinet Is Definitely Off Faculty Committee Says Cabinet Sponsored Dances Restricted To Students The social cabinet dance scheduled to follow tonight's Carolina-Clem ion freshman gridiron clash has been :efinitely called off, Ray Kramer, chairman of the cabinet, announced yesterday. Kramer's announcement came after the faculty committee on student ac tivities ruled Monday that only Caro ina students with athletic cards would be admitted to the dance. Kramer said yesterday that the so :ial cabinet "regrets very much to have to cancel the dance, but we feel that we could not draw enough stu dents to pay the orchestra and con ;equently are forced to call it off." "Furthermore," the social cabinet chairman continued, "we do not feel that it would be fair to Clemson stu dents and visiting alumni to turn them away from the dance." Members of the faculty committee that handed down the ruling restrict ing social cabinet dances to Carolina students are: W. Win Or Lose, USC Will Have School Whether or not Carolina wins the state fair classic with Clemson Thurs day, University students will resume classes on Friday morning. This an tiouncenment was made today by Presi lent J. Rion McKissick in an effort to correct the rumor that arises every year saying there will be extra holi days in case of a Gamecock victory. "All holidays are set by the Board of Trustees on the calendar and only the board can change the schedule," President McKissick declared. "I have no a4@ority to set a new holi day." A spirit of high hopes and desperate chance pervaded the classrooms and dormitories of the institution. Football fans from all over the state will forget the dire predictions of today's headlines tomorrow at 2 p. m. when the annual battle between the Carolina Gamecock and the Clemson Tiger begins. A record crowd of twenty-two thousand people will see Rex Enright's gridiron warriors charge onto the greensward to meet Frank Howard's bowlbound Tigers in the thirty-ninth renewal of the State Fair classic. Pep Meeting Tonight A pep meeting will be held tonight for all Carolina sup porters at six-thirty, featuring the annual shirt tail yarade and burning of the Tiger, president Jim Howey announced to day. President J. Rion McKissick will lead the parade and will lead the cheers at the bonfire. This will probably be the first time in history that the president of the University has assumed the position of cheerleader, and is indicative of the spirit of 0 the entire Carolina personnel. r, Following the parade, Gamecocks will go to Melton Field to k cheer for the Biddies who are meeting Clemson's freshman team in a game that rivals the varsity tussle for color and intense excitement. Fires Burn All Night y On into the night, fires will be kept going at gates to the Y University, with the freshmen who will tend them having their first taste of the eager tenseness that precedes a Carolina-Clem son game. Already the campus is beginning to hum with the anticipa *0 tion of the great day, when, win or lose, Carolina supporters can cheer their team on against the traditional rivals from d Clemson. e Columbia theatres are cooperating to make this one of the most publicized games of the decade by getting a camerman - to record the classic on film. The Carolina theatre is trying to - interest a national newsreel syndicate in covering the Carolina >e games, Wallace Martin, manager, said today. Martin said that the film would be flown to Atlanta and would be broght back for showing on Saturday in time for jj the late show and starting Sunday would be run. The Caro lina theatre is interestedl in getting more newsreel publicity rfor the University, he said. The Carolina theatre is paying e, the cost of coverage for this game.
