Too Late To Class... By PAUL "SCOOP' LEAGUE LETTER FROM COACH ENRIGHT The following correspondence took place this week: * * * * * Dear Coach Enright: I have heard it rumored that some of USC's best football players are called in the draft and that some of your best-laid plans have to be changed. Is this true? Scoop League. * * * * * Dear Mr. League: The rumor that you have heard is true. In fact eight of the best men on the squad may not be here for the opening game next fall with North Carolina, and 12 other men had to register, but drew low numbers. Bobo Carter, rising junior and voted most valuable Gamecock last fall at his tackle slot, has been deferred only until June. Joe Krivonak, 200 lb. first string guard, and Steve Nowak, of the same classification at the tackle position, have also been deferred until Junle 1. Bill Applegate, the third varsity tackle, had his physical examination April 1, the first of the eight to (o so. Stan Stasica, rising sophomore halfback, drew a very low number and was deferred only until August 7. Nat Burgess, guard, and Buford Clary, halfback, will probably be two soldiers from Gaffney by July 1, the time of their deferment. Lucius Hinson, has been told to report for his physical examination on June 5. There certainly is dothing cheery about the above, and we will really miss any of the eight if they are not back. However it is possible of course that they may not all be taken. We can still put out a good football club however, with the men that are left on hand. Of course I can't make any predictions, but I will say that next year should be "the" year for certain important men. For example Dutch Elston, who had malaria his sophomore year, and a crippled shoulder last year, is in good physical condition for the first time and should play great football. Other seniors like F.lston will be having their last chance. Three, Harvey Blouin, Al Grygo,. and- DeWitt Arrowsmith, in the backfield, will no doubt carry on from where they left 'off last season. And the same is true of the rest of the team members. You asked me recently if I planned to use the "T" formation very much and what difference there was in it and the regular Notre Dame system. I do plan to use the "T" in addition to our regular system; and there is no really important fundamental difference in it from any other system. For all of them you need hard-hitting, fast-charging football players. You asked about injuries and scholarship difficulties. As far as in juries are concerned we have a bright side I believe. One never knows about scholarship and eligibility. Before I close this letter I would like to add also that it is quite certain that one coach, Sterling DuPre, will be absent next fall. He is a reserve officer and has already been deferred once and will go in June. I trust this is the info,rmation you desired. (Signed) Coach Rex Enright. With regular characters, solo ar tists and choruses the production will probably have the largest cast of any play the University Players have ever put on.
