And Our Thoughts Turn to Cheesecake-News

immediately comes the regret that U. S. C. authorities are to forbid co-ed
participation in men's sports. U. S. C. had some great cheesecake
publicity coming up on a threesome including Sara Rushton, tennis star;
Jane Crum, golfing great; and Alice Glominski, who had invaded the
Gamecock swimming ranks. A. P. had already begun to burn their wires
for pics of the three.
Now it 'seems nothing left but for the gals with the -co-ordinated
muscles, to promote the co-ed sports idea in the state. They've made
a start in the field of fencing, which features pert Adele Moses and
others; and in tennis, where Love-inia Lyles is attraction No. 1.
Like a Three-Ring Circus, A Small Corner of Preston Dormitory
put on its biggest show to date Tuesday evening.
And there were no stand-ins. The leading roles were played by the
feature actors themselves. Our newspaper nose smelled the plot and
immediately our curiosity quotient jumped a new high, but until now,
what it's all about remains a mystery.
You see it was like this. At 10:05 p. m. we entered the hall of said
dorm and confronted political boss, Billy MGcarity, and opposing politi
cal boss, Sol Blatt, Jr., shaking palms with much gusto. At 10:07 p. in.
Blatt was relating a recent unhappy encounter he had with one Dumas
Turner, to a political brave Lang Hogan and his assembled friend Jack
Reese.
At 10:10 p. m. Blatt left and immediately at 10:103, still a third
country was heard from in the person of presidential candidate Dick
Anderson.
That was just a bit too much, because immediately the famed Non
Partisan league swung into action and marched eight-strong into an
ajoining room. You'd think that that was enough, but to and behold
the brains 6f one machine, George Coleman, appeared in short order,
and he must have begun the procession-for immediately they marched
down the hall. There came the aforementioned Turner, Joab Dowling,
Paul Posey, Blatt again, and finally the only positive indepenTent and
the only politician not campaigning for office-Holmes Dreher.
It all happened within fifteen minutes and we guarantee that there
was some tea abrewing, and we still are curious.
An Heath, Blanche Gibbes, Mary Verner, and a Half-Dozen others
tried this week to sell us on the idea of contributing to some kind of fund
to aid the starving Armenians, Chinese, or somebody who was a victim
of something or other.
At first we were at a lost to express our feelings about the matter
but some wise words of Prof. Havilah Babcock to the effect that lie
was for home missions, that is, aid to University Students, before he
was for sending money off that would probably be used by the oppres
sors rather than the oppressed, helped us out.
Attending a senior class meeting in order to form an alumni group
saddened us just a bit, and we thought about the world that made so
much news, yet invented so many different types of news-covering
machines that graduates of a University school of Journalism were still
not in demand. Our thoughts wondered on back 'til this time last
season and to the then popular joke that ran like this,
Hitler told Chamberlain when they met that he hated him because
his fleet's too big,
and we realized that only History books would care about Chamber
lain any more. And we wondered about us next year as an alumni.
Yes, the world will swallow us tip, and we'll be forgotten also.

,his way of making up for smelly short story writing in just that sort

The Euphradian Literary Society
has voted to appropriate $2.25 more
for relief of foreign students. This
move was hastily made by the mem
bers at last Tuesday evening's meet
ing upon learning that the Clario
sophic Society had voted $12.00 for
this cause. Previous to last Tues
day's action, the Euphradians had
only dropped $10.00 into the relief
collection plate.
In making the motion necessary
for this extra expenditure Tom Mc
Cutcheon explained, "For the first
time in history, those who inhabit
the hall across the campus h ve
out-appropriated us. This disgrace
must be .wiped out immediately."
McCutcheon advocated an added ap
propriation of $2.00.
Bill Rhodes immediately took the
floor to remind the group that the
Euphradians must not only meet
the Clario threat, but must over
come it. He therefore advocated
that the appropriation be increased
to a total of $12.05.
This amendment immediately
adopted, the society went into a dis
cussion of the possibilities of Nazi
confiscation of part of this donation,
and a $15 increase in the appropri
ation was unanimously adopted to
cover Hitler confiscations.

My whole plan has been completely
mapped out-for every student in
the university who wishes to be
taught ball room dancing free of
charge and be given one credit equal
to gym.
"Thirdly, I want to see Carolina
clubs all over the state comparable
to the one already started in Clar
endon, Kershaw, Lee and Sumter
counties. These clubs are formed
for socials and for better faculty
student-alumni relations, so that
when students finish the alumni vilt
help place them in good jobs."

tions decided this week that no so
cial functions may be held one week
before or during examination pe
riods, W. Frank Taylor, Jr., assist
