Pi Kaippa Air * SMUDGES* BY NANCY PADGETT Pulchritude and pugilism will be the lime (orange, lemon, raspberry, and sometimes chocolate) light this week-end when colleges from the south will send their candidates down for the much sought after black eye which is so every prevalent among fighters. So, the studes of the University are just remaining here to see USC play host. TEA-HOUNDS . . . Girls be prepared for a shock, because a cloud of a ray of sunshine is about to come into our midst when the famous and exclusive teasers of Phi Kappa Sigma give another of their twice told "tease." This oc casion will be in about two weeks. No definite plans have been made as to where this farce will be, but in case you're interested call, Left Brother Pete Blackwell at his establishment. BREAD LINE . . . The Pi Phi's initiated seven girls Tuesday evening and feted them with a banquet at the Columbia Hotel in the Crystal Room. Mary Quite Contrary Free, (eh, Tom?) awarded recognition pins to Beverley Nin ninger, best all-round pledge, and Irene Gordon, highest scholarship. To "Stinky" Blackwell and "Tommy A." Brand president's gavels for past service . . The ones honored who begin paying dues next month are: Frances Fairey, Bette Gawler. Irene Gordon, Beverley Ninninger, Hazel Sanders, Harriett Williamson, and Polly Anne Wolfe. KAPPA DELTA ... Kappa Delta initiated 10 new girls Thursday night. Following the initiation ceremony there was a banquet at the Jefferson for the girls. Those who enjoyed the free lunch were: Barbara Ballentine, Lil Bollin, Theodosia Browne, Marie Montague, Frances Randall, Frances Simpson, Mildred Salmon, Shirley Sumner, Paula Zeigler, and Anne McCutcheon. SIGMA GNU'S . . . (No Gnu's, is good Gnu's) aren't going to have a barn dance this time or any time too soon, but I'll tell you what they did have . . . 'twas a Father and Son banquet, Wednesday night at Harvey's (Hash House) and also the Gnu's have seven Gnu Gnu's. The Gnu's are: Rudolph Gudmundson, Julian Marchant, Bill Schofield, George Combs, Mack Rudisel, Charles Knowlton, and Bill Trowbridge. SLEWFOOT . . . Marion Ballenger is off with a bang-bang for Atlanta, Georgia (where there are worms in peaches) to the dances at Georgia Tech this week end. Emily Brown graced Miss Gee's (lining room at Converse College Friday night at one of those "hold tight" or "get tight" affairs when the girls break on the boy's and the boy from Clemson always get stuck. But then, a Citadel boy never gets a bid to one of those dances . . . Dorothea Crouch is off to the haunts of high-minded fellows, Wofford College, to attend the Kappa Sigma Formal there Friday night . . . Irene Gordon, diminutive redhead from Alabam, went up to Georgia Tech last week-end to the A T 0 formal . . . Then the Chi Omega's decided the thing they could do for their pledges was to give them a debut at Mrs. Sloan's studio . . . Glenn Miller playing in the slot. LAUGH ... Says A to B: "Why is that mal over there snapping his fingers?" Says B to A: "He's a deaf mute with the hiccups?" PARASITES . . . Mary Frances Polk, Marianne Marscher, and Rinkie Patterson decided last week-end, as they do every week-end, that Beaufort was the place for them . . . Lula Deere Bass of Latta, S. C. did her duty by Betty Swygert, Dot Elliott, and Erna Weiters. They were her guests over the week-end . . . Big Operators Hazel Sanders and David Fulmer rocked Allendale last week-end. Hazel paid her ma and pa a visit, while David put his feet under Bubsie Farmer's table. W. P. A.... Jimmy Thomas and Tom Jolly forsaking all others and bills left Sun day night by way of Slowboard for Philadelphia to there for three months in the Marine training corps, or some such piffle. After that goodness knows where they will be, and he's uncertain . . . Then the.re's the Scotchman wvho stood in the breadline so long, he lost his job. SAWBONES . .. The Medicated Morons of the Medical, College of South Carolina in Charleston, have at last decided that all good ground pigs come out some (lay to see their shadow or some one else's, so with a song in their heart's and test tubes in their hands, they are having a week-end of fun and frivolity beginning on March 7. Some of the wveaker minded ones planning to go are: Mary Wylie Conniffee, Anne Wolfe, and I (echo, S shadow, and Marian Wilder) Little Jack Little Jack Little Jack Little Jack (monotonous, isn't it?) is the snake charmer and maybe will furnish the music. This occasi-on will mark the seven ty-thirl anniversary of the founding of the fraternity at the University of Virginia in 1868. J. Gordon lughes, well-known attorney and past nation al fraternity president of Pi KA will be the principal speaker of the even ing. Other speakers will include the Rev. Leslie W. Edwards and A. C. Donelan of Columbia. Alany alumni from all parts of the state are ex pected to attend. Immediately following the banqnet Pi KA's will dance at the Jefferson Hotel from 9 until 1 o'clock where the ballroom will be attractively dec orated in the fraternity colors, gar net and gold. Sponsoring for the dauce are Betty Miller for )an Gibbes, presi dent; Betty Wertz for Bob Schwinn, vice-president; Lolly McCants for Jim Galloway, secretary; Leone Strickland, for G. C. Kirby, cor responding secretary; Florence Wil liams, for R. G. Scarborough, treasurer. Sophomore "Y" Puts On Fashion Show Pastel shades, plaids and bright colors will be the theme of the annual fashion show to be presented by the sophomore Y in Drayton Hall on March 14. Each sorority will cho'ose models for the show ; and the sophomores will select tte non-sorority partici pants. Deward Brittain, a junior in the school of journalism, will be the master of ceremonies. The money obtained from the fash ion display will be contributed to some project of Alpha Kappa Gam ma. Eva llanmpton is chairman of the costume committee; Dot Derrick is responsible for the program and tick ets; Betty Boyd is the advertisement chairman. Emily Wolfe will direct a skit which will bring in many of the new spring styles.
