Here we are, by the grace of gosh, and the reinstatement committee.
Family and faculty willing; yoi can start anew and forget the past and un
passed.
So, "rush" forward:
The Delta Zeta's hold top honors by pledging seven girls at the beginning
of rush week. The;e pieces of lovely luggage are: Eleanor Beaumont,
Coral Coble, Virginia Bonner, Sybil Lee, Mary Wright Duckett,. Betty Car
lisle, and Carlotta Cooper.
On February 11, the Deltay Zetay's are sponsoring a Bridge tournament at
the Coca-Cola Plant. The time is eight bells and the script is 25 cents. There
will be prizes for winners and losers, so if you know the difference between
a "club convention" and a "Democratic convention," be present.
Clemson College is sending out SOS's and bids to the skirts of South
Carolina to come to their series of dances this week-end. Among those
braving the mob are: Ann Welch, Bessie King, Lou Gilland, Betty Wertz,
Betty Boineau, Emily Wolfe and Ma'rian Ballenger.
Don't frown "Daughter's-of-the-Ashley," your turn will come soon for
the Citadel Brigade is having its midwinter dance on St. Valentine's Day.
From the great Atlantic ocean to the wide Pacific shores-from the White
Oak flowing mountains to the South of Baltimore,-pledges do become in
itiates, sometimes. The Tri Delta's are planning to carry five to the promised
land in the near future. They are: Emily Johnson, Ann Shand Adams,
Betty Marshall, Sara Flinn, and Peggy Forbes.
Chi Omega's initiated four girls Wednesday night. New wearers of the
safety clasp are: Louise Coe, Betsy Ross (not the flag-maker), Virginia
Cox, and Mildred Wilson.
The Pi Phi's (Fire Fly's) moved en masse last week-end to visit several
deserving sisters in Florence. Elinor Brand, Virginia Dickman, and Harriett
Williamson had as their boarders, Jane Cox, Sara Rushton and Peggy Bailey.
Heartfelt sympthy to the hostesses.
They elected new officers recently, and the leaders in this A. F. of L. or
ganization are Mary Free, prexy; Jane Cox, vice prez.; Dorothea Crouch,
recording secretary; Marian Wilder, corresponding secretary, and Nancy
Padgett, treasurer.
The Alpha Doodle Pie's are to be congratulated on haying one Suzanne
(Stick, Stix, Sticks) Wilson in their clan once more. She attended the
University of Indiana last semester. The rest of the Pie's have been doing
the so-called town this past week and are going to continue to do it. Ann
Heath is going to Macon to attend a wedding. Lucille Crosby spent last
week in New York. Ann Stewart went up to Chapel Hill last week-end for
the dances.
The Zeta Tau Alpha's have a lovely visitor with them now. She is Miss
Dorothy Gibbons. Evie Burnette went up to Rockingham, N. C., for a few
days between semesters.
.Frats are clicking their heels all over the place and it seems that the
greater University of South Carolina is off to a merry start.
The Sigma Nu's came forth with another barn dance at Spigner's Satur
day night. Also, Nevin Betts was host to his brothers and their dates Mon
day night after the basketball game.
Mr. Charlie Foster entertained the K. A. kids with a gluriuub get-to-gether
at his country home Tuesday night. Pass the thimble and drop the hand
kerchief were enjoyed by each little lass and lad.
The Pi Kap's, conservative scholars, have been going the gamnt this week.
Monday night, there was a supper at Mr. John D. Carroll's in Lexington.
Wednesday night, a dance at Sloan's and to close the week's frivolities,
Saturday night, a party at Trenholnm Golf Club.
The Phi Sig's let down the bars and herded in a new flock of officers
to lead them for the coming semester. The big-wig is Hugh Lister with
Jack Callison, vice-president; Jim Bearden, secretary, and Arnold Muir,
treasurer.
I hear by remote control that Joe Lever and Arti Sptiz are planning to
visit the Coker Convent in H-artsville for the coming week-end. The Pi KA's
are really in a dither over their coming Founder's Day Banquet and Formal.
It's to be on February 28, at the Jefferson with Buster Spann as the maestro.
The harp singing David's of Davidson drew the cream of Carolina up
to the Pan Hellenic Dances. Among those tripping the light fantastic were
Willodene Rion and Mackey King, taking the feminine leads. Dan, Hollis,
Billy Chapman, Bays Moore, Jimmy McLeod, Fred Quinn, and Ed Parler
on the receiving end.
The Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity are heading the top as to newv initiates. The
new boys to take the vows this week-end are: Morris Mazursky, Philip
Schneider, Murray Pittel, and Harry Kaplan.
The Sally-Daily's of 'Sigma. Delta went off last week to parts knowvn <md
unknown. Gerry Shapiro spent Wednesday in Augusta, Georgia. While the
"Silver Foxes" traveled to Dillon to visit Evelyn Schafer last week.
Got to close now, but with this gentle remlindler-the next installment will
be "How will the Superman get out of the Cement Mixer"? or if you prefer
Tim McCoy in "Who Untied My Horse ?"
-NANCY PADGETT.

For Big Rush
Perhaps it is because of our ma
tronly air, or the fact that Dorothy
Dix is out next best friend's cousin's
aunt-but so many bewildered beau
ties have pestered us about rush
party "p's" and "q's" that we de
cided to publish gleanings from our
twenty year, experiences in the hot
box cornersl
In the first place-don't expect to
be the star in this little drawmar,
even if you do liik your Hedyist.
You dear, are merely sceneryl More
important, than your ego is that
your date's frat dupe some other
frat out of catching that poor
squirming innocent little rat.
Personally, we always slip a few
volumes of history into our pocket
book just to keep us amused. But
then, you may like knitting better.
When the rushee lad is led up to
you-Elinor-show your teeth
grin your brightest and whitest at
your date as if to say, "Lo-the
eighth wonder of the world." And
whisper audibly, 'G'ee, he's really
an angel."
Then turn to the rushee, dazzle
him with that slow Myrna Loy
smile, wink confidently and whisper
(loud enough for your dat to hear,
too) "We know yhich frat has the
best bunch on the campus, don't
we?" Then look knowingly around
the room. (This assures another in
vitation to this fraternity's parties I)
If the frat is a drinking bunch
(water, of course) shall we say
since the frat is a drinking bunch)
say--"These boys are such dear
dopes-always full of fun I" If they
are the BIG MEN ON THE CAM
PUS type exclaim, "So active,
y'know." If they are the scholarly
type,-bue we don't know any who
are, so skip that I
Having done your bit, retire
quietly to a corner while your date
puts the pressure on. Or if you can
shoot the Ferdinand fast as a tobac
co salesman, they may leave you
alone with the rushee. If so, con
tinue the aforementioned line until
you can hand him to the boys wvrap
ped in tissue paper and wailing to
be pinned up; or until he says (as
our. last victim did), "Go on and
talk. It makes me feel good and I'll'
do wvhat I want to, anyway!')
