Birds Bird Offensive Blasts Bulldogs For Third Win Eight Seniors Close Gridiron Careers In Brilliant Victory The Gamecock gridders closed their '40 gridiron season by bowling over the Blue and White clad cadets of the Citadel 31-6. Eight Birds closed their careers in the Garnet and Black colors, as the Birds showed entirely too much power for the outclassed future "looies". Joe Patrone, Bird senior guard closed his career in *the hackneyed "blaze of glory" as he covered a Cit adel fumble on their 25, setting the Birds sights on the pay dirt line which came two plays later as "De Jeep" Urban took the ball on an end around and pranced 25 yards to score the first six points of the game. Ar rowsmith added the placement. "Hedge" Stars Announcing himself as the star of the game was "Hedge" Arrowsmith, who added seven points to the Game cock total of the evening and also did some of the prettiest running of the setto. The cadets came right mack at the Birds when they put on a sustained drive which started on their own 15 and didn't end until Gold punched over from about the one yard line. After this growling of the Bull dogs died away it was field day for the Carolinians as Enright subbed frequently and every one of the Birds saw service. Grygo Scores Two The next Bird score was set up on an end around by Lytle, Grygo drove the ball over. The half opened up and so did Arrowsmith, as he galloped over the double line soon after the referee's whistle sounded the opening of thehalf. Urban's end around set up another score for the Birds over the tired Bulldogs. Grygo made his total count 12 points as he stepped away from pawing cadets. The final score of the game came when Roskie, to be watched back of the "next year" on a beautiful' play off tackle broke through several would be tacklers, sidestepped the secondary and raced over the goal line, the play went for 43 yards, the longest run of the day. Bulldogs Outstanding ' For the Bulldogs outstanding lines men were Ritchie Belser and "Kong" Shealy at guards, and Wolf at tack le. In their backfield it was Bol duc and tiny Hank Foster all the way. The time set for the contests each afternoon is 4:15. Each sorority has one team and the non-sorority girls have a team. On Monday afternoon Kappa Delta play the non-sorority girls, Tri Del tas play ADPI's, Delta Zetas play Pi Phi's, and Chi Omegas play Zeta Tau Alphas. The winner in each of these contests play in the semi-finals on Tuesday afternoon. The finals will be played on Wed nesday afternoon and the winner of the tournament declared. A silver cup will be awarded the winning team. The Pi Phi's hold the cup at present. If a team should win the cup three years in succession it au tomatically becomes theirs.. for good. Nancy Padgett is chairman of the tournament and assisting her is Bet ty Whitaker. Martha Smith is pub licity manager. The referee is Miss Nancy Pope and assisting her will be Miss Verd Anna Peterson. Jaycees Sponsor High All-Star Football Game High school all-stars gathered from every corner of this state have been staying in the University Field House for the past week. Tonight they go up against the all-star squad picked from the five high schools of Columbia proper. The game will be played on Mel ton Field at 8:00 and will probably prove to be one of the best high school fracas ever presented in South Carolina. Coach Bill Clark of Sumter is the head coach of the state all-stars and has assembled one of the most prom ising squads of material ever seen in Columbia. In the Bird line, it was "Bobo" Carter, Louis Sossamon, "Jeep" Ur ban, Hatkevich, and the whole works played good ball. The same holds true for the backfield. Also, any ten (10) members of the student body, upon signing a petition to the student council, shall have the right to call such a meet ing. The president shall preside over all meetings of the student body. The president shall be ex-of ficio president of the student coun cil, shall preside at its meetings, and shall be entitled to a vote in the proceedings in case of a tie vote in that body. The president may call special meetings. of the student council, and shall call such meet ings at the written request of a ma jority of the members of the stu dent council. The president shall dis charge all other duties incidental or pertaining to his office. Section 2. It shall be the duty of the first vice-president of the stu dent body to assist the president in the discharge of his duties and to assume the duties of the president in the absence of that officer. He shall serve as ex-officio first vice president of the student council and shall discharge all other duties in cidental or pertaining to his office. Section 3. It shall be the duty of the second vice-president of the stu dent body to assist the first vice president in the discharge of his duties and to assume the duties of the first vice-president in the ab sence of that officer. The duties of the secre tary-treasurer shall be as follows: (1) To take and preserve legible minutes of all student body meet ings in a permanent record book provided for that purpose. (3) To be responsible for all cor respondence of the student body and student council. (4) To supervise, and in a written report account for all funds under control of the student council. The student council shall consist of fifteen (15) mem bers, of whom the president of the student body shall be ex officio president, the first vice-president shall be ex officio vice-president, the second vice-president shall be ex officio second vice-president, and the secretary-treasurer of the stu dent body shall be ex officio secre tary-treasurer. The remainder shall be constituted as follows: President of the Law Federation, Chairman of the Honor Council, President of the Co-ed Association, Presidents of the four academic classes, and one representative from each of the four literary societies. Section 3. Each class shall have the following officers: president, vice-president, secretary-treasurer, and historian. . Section 4. The social cabinet shall be composed of three (3) students elected from the student body at large, and two (2) faculty members to be appointed each year by the president of the University. The social cabinet shall conduct such ac tivities as the Committee on Social Affairs deems advisable. Further, it shall be responsible for the May Queen coronation and the May Queen ball. Section 5. The student body shall elect two (2) of its members te represent it on the athletic advisory board. Section 6. No student, while en rolled at the University shall be al lowed to hold more than one of the following offices: president, first vice-president, second vice-presi dent, and secretary-treasurer of the student body, and president of the junior and senior classes; nor shall any student hold any of the above offices while serving in any of the following capacities: editor and bus iness manager of the Garnet and Black and editor and business man ager of the Gamecock. ARTICLE V. Section 1. All powers herein enumerated shall be vested in the student council. Section 2. The new student coun cil shall meet the first Tuesday in May. Special meetings shall be held at the call of the president. For each meeting of the student council there shall be personal notification to all members at least twenty-four hours preced ing such meeting. The council shall have the power to determine its rules of procedure except that it shall take no action unless a ma jority of its membership is present exclusive of the president of the stu dent body. Section 3. The members of the student council shall be elected for a regular academic year. All vacan cies in the student council and other elective offices shall be filled by a special election not later than one month after the vacancy occurs, and by the general rules as herein set forth for a general student election. Election of minor class offices so vacated shall be called at the dis cretion of the president of the class concerned. In case of the withdraw al from school of a class president, the vice-president shall be elevated. Section 4. All action of the stu dent council shall be considered ac tion of the student body and shall be binding upon the stddent body subject to Article VIII, Section 1. Section 5. The student council shall make announcements in the Gamecock of all its actions which affect the student body. Section 6. Absence without ex cuse from two (2) regular meetings of the student council shall consti tute an automatic resignation of the member so absent from that body. Validity of excuse shall be de termined by the remaining mem bers of the student council. Any member so expelled shall not be eligible for re-election. ARTICLE VI. Section 1. The student council shall be considered the standing ex ecutive committee of the student body. It shall have the power to appoint temporary committees for the investigation of any matter properly within the power of the student council and for the admin istration of any project sponsored by the student council. This committee shall be composed of the chairman of the Social Cabinet, the Dean of Women, the Director of Student Activities, the chairman of the Student Union Board, the president of the Inter fraternity Council, the president of the Pan Hellenic Council, one (1) non-fraternity non-sorority student, and two faculty members to be ap pointed by the president of the Uni versity. This committee shall have responsibility for all social events at the University, subject to Uni versity regulations, and shall sub mit reports to the student council concerning its activities. Section 3. There shall be estab lished by the student council a com mittee on Student-Faculty Re lations. This committee is to be composed of the president of the Co-ed Association, the first vice president of the student body, the Dean of Women, the Dean of the College of Arts and Science, the President of the University, three students chosen annually by the student council, and three faculty representatives chosen by the fac ulty. This committee shall meet for the discussion and promotion of cordial relations between the fac ulty and student body of the Uni versity. Section 4. There shall be estab lished by the student council a Committee on Cooperatives. This committee is to be composed of two faculty representatives choser by the faculty, the manager of co operatives and three representatives chosen by the student council. This committee shall report to the stu. dent council every two months or the matters it has considered and the suggestions it has made to im prove the service of the coopera tives. The movie will be spon sored by the Block "C" Club for the benefit of Miss Peggy Bailey who was injured in the Pi Phi-Tri Delt co-ed football game. The ten cents admission charge will be used to defray Miss Bailey's ex penses while she was confined to the University infirmary. Both pictures will be over in approximately one hour, thus giving patrons time to get to the field house for the basket ball game. Coach Enright, whose contract was renewed this week, and members of the coaching staff will be introduced. Members of the Block "C" Club will handle ticket sales. All members of the student body and faculty are cordially invited to attend. The Wake Forest game was one of the best of the current season, and the Citadel game found the Bird offensive and defensive clicking in the best form of the year.
