Campus Wall
Is Torn Down
Arch Is Built
At Pendleton
Street Entrance
Another section of Carolina's
ancient wall is falling under the
impact of WPA sledge ham
mers. Another corner of the
campus is undergoing change
to make the new library build
ing more beautiful.
The corner of the wall on
Pendleton St. is being demol
ished to make way for an arch
over the driveway leading to
the side of the library.
General plans for the gateway
call for a curved indention in
the wall, similiar to that at the
front WPA entrance to Maxcy
College. An arch, made from
bricks taken from the wall,
will span the driveway, mak
ing a brick halo for the library
as seen from Pendleton St.
Engineering students, under
the direction of R. M. Sunwalt,
drew plans for the arch and
have charge of the work.
John A. Chase, Jr., dean of
administration, declared that the
arch would add greatly to the
beauty of the campus.
