McKown Delivers .Inaugural The Clariosophic literary societ) held their annual reception for fresh. men and new students last Tuesda3 evening in the Clariosophic hall. Lang Hogan, retiring president ol the society, welcomed all the visitor. and introduced Jonathan Z. McKown the new president for the ensuing semester. McKown delivered a shorl inaugural talk and then introduced the new officers. These and othei prominent members of the society all spoke briefly on the history and tra ditions of the society. Other new officers are Bob 'Griffith, vice-president; Hal Moore, treasurer; Paul Posey, secretary; and Jimmy Mulford, critic. Students who already have registered are re quested to cooperate. -Lewis Announces (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1) The first Social Cabinet-Alumni sponsored dance of the season will proceed the game with Henry Westbrook and his University of South Carolina furnishing the music for the Field house festivities. This is the first free Social Cabinet dance of the year. Members of the Alumni and Alumnae Associations, the faculty and members of the University student body are cor dially invited. The dance will last from 6:30 until 8:30 with refresh ments being served by a voluntary co-ed social committee. 1940 Classes To Meet One of the main meetings of the homecoming day will be the meet ing of the class of 1940. Getting to gether for the first time since gradu ation last June a successful reunion is being planned by a special com mittee of Robert Collier, Charles Black, Foster Smith, George Cole man and Tom McCutcheon. The '40 law class also plans to have a session. Heading the Committee are Fletcher Spigner, Jr., Kenneth Fry fogle, Louis Searson, T. K. John son and Rudolph Barnes. Mr. Lewis also announced that classes ending in one and six were scheduled to meet this spring and these members are urged to attend homecoming on the 5th. Other classes planning meetings are the classes of 1905, '10 and '25 and Law classes of '27 and '29. Alumni and Alumnae Officers Serve Chaperons for the homecoming program include President and Mrs. J. Rion McKissick, members of the faculty, and alumni and alumnae of ficers and their wives and husbands. John W. Crews of Columbia is President of the Alumni group while Mrs. William C. The course, which is for both men and women, will be considered as a regular gym class. Mr. Crawford will be assisted by Willis Beall, pool lifeguard, who will teach'diving, and by Roger Kirk and Bob Harris, who will instruct the swimming. The class will be held every Tues day, Wednesday, and Thursday at 5 o'clock (uhless a more convenient schedule can be arranged), and will last one semester, one credit being given for the satisfactory completion of the course. All those interested in either the varsity or freshman swimming team would do well to enroll in this class, -Active Work (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1) from Coach Rex Enright's office. Captain Hall, who arrived at the University last week to head the new naval program, was graduated from Annapolis in 1912. Until his transfer to the University he was operations officer for the Eleventh Naval District with headquarters at San Diego, Cal. Byw virtue of his long naval ex perience and five years teaching at the United States Naval Academy, the new head of Carolina's naval ROTC is well qualified for the po sition. He also was in charge of the naval ROTC at the University of Washington for two years. Chief Boatswain's Maie Farmer, Chief Gunner's Mate Pennington, and Chief Quartermaster Saulter have reported to Captain Hall for duty here. Several officers are ex pected soon. Equipment for the unit is now en route to the University. Captain Hall will shortly select a body of water where practice in seamanship will be given members pf the unit.
