Withering News By Jeanne Withers NOTHING MUCH HAPPENED 0 There's not much to tell this week. What with Exams, Easter Holidays and Elections, the campus has been too busy to go many places or do many things. Of course you have all bulled the house parties over, and some nice material for bull sessions there was. Fer instance, that elusive spook that haunted the Phi Sigs in their courtinl Every time they were emulating Bob Taylor, he showed up and broke up the party. Too bad if they ever find out- woh the culprit was. 0 Too bad the Sigma News can't be printed. It's quite interestin'. Yes, indeed. * Ed "Your Feet's Too Big" Patterson has haunted us long enough to-break this column. But since lie's our buddy, we'll print this warn ilng to all the gals. Beware, Ed has broken his vow never to attend another Carolina dance! Lucky is the wall flower when Ed's around. And speaking of dances, the Citadel senior hop is detracting some of the flower of Carolina womanhood this weekend. Mackey King, Sally McCaw, Norine Huey, Jane Wylly, Margaret HaskeU, Margie Elliot, Pat Jeter, Tweet Blakeney, etc., etc. Goldie Lowman and Georgia Schuler will Cotillion at Breneau, while the German Club holds their Easter German. Added attractions over at Clemson's sister school will be Mary Elise Livingston and Margaret Westmoreland, and Mickey's little brother, George Bowman will trip the light somethingorother at -lollins. Now isn't he popular? Four good dances have been stomped in the last three week. Now that's a pretty good batting average. The ATO dance was one of the best of the- year. They're still with us, so guess they were all good, meek, obedient little boys, and did like Papa and Mania said. holidays and Elections, the campus has been too busy to go many places * The KD's (who will soon be Greeks, April 25 to be exact) threw a rousing barn dance. Ole Huck Babcock stole the show in his tacky outfit. The dance brought a request for a lot more "sweater swings" where saddle shoes are the rule, and aching feet the exception. * The ZTA's had their big formal last week. There was a personal request by the president of the sorority to remember it, "because, after all. we can only have one every two years." Maybe the memory of this one will last 'till the next one. Not satisfied with the Southern climate while the North was shivering in blizzards, they took a fancy trip to Hawaii. Real palms and red roses decorated the ballroom and the ork, Buster Spann's wore leis. The grand march started when Leola Garety led the-girls into the ballroom through a door spotted by a large golden moon, and went through the customary figures. 0 The Sigma Chi's also made good use of a moon when they had their hay ride, complete with hay and everything. Oh, boy, was it romantic! BEAUTY PAGEANT DANCE OKAY 0 The dance following the beauty pageant was great. Hetiry West brook really had a band, as he showed that night, and his theme is really in the groove. The girls all looked swell, and we would certainly have hated to be the judges. 0 Since you all have enough to talk about what with the results of the elections, and since you probably know more gossip than we do, and if you don't you can read Pat's column, 'cause that's what it's for, we'ii shut up for a change and give you a ie. . . . . . . ..........\ . ZTA's Dance Spring Ball The bienniel soring ball of Beta Omicron chapter of Zeta Tau Al pha sorority was held Thursday evening, March 28, in the bal!room of the Jefferson Hotel, with music by Buster Spann's Gamecock or chestra. Sorority songs were used for sev eral of the no-breaks. "My Zeta Tau Girl" was played for the special no-break which followed the grand march. Officers of the chapter who with their escorts led the sorority figure were: Leola Garety, presi dent, with Tommy Hopkins; Evelyn Burnette, vice-president, with Bill Norton; Ellouisa Singley, secretary, with Monroe Fulmer; Winifred Burford, treasurer, with Rudy Barnes; Mildred Taylor, dance com mittee chairman, with Tom Allen. Four no-breaks beside the special one were danced. Preceding the formal Lula Mac Sutton gave a drop-in for members of the sorority, their dates, and all Zeta alumnae at her home on Rich land Street. Lula Mac Sutton sang the special sorority no-break and several other no-breaks for which sorority songs were used. Parents of the members of Zeta Tau Alpha, patronesses, and many faculty members and alumnae were invited to chaperon.. A crime prevention club has been formed by Canisius College stu dents. Lou Gilland, and Kai Wig & Robe GiveBanquet The annual banquet given by the Order of the Wig and Robe, schol astic society of the University Law School, was held in the English Roon of the Columbia Hotel, Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. D. W. Robinson, prominent Co lumbia attorney, was principal speaker of the evning. Old and new inembers of the VIg and Robe and the law school faculty attended the affair. The Order of the Wig and Robe takes in each year the first five men scholastically in the junior class of the law school. The sixth and seventh men in order of scholarship standing are taken in at the end of their first semester of their senior year. The law student who at the end of his junior year has the highest scholarship rating in his class au tomatically becomes Chief Justice of the Wig and Robe. The secondl highest becomes clerk. Robt. E. Vandiver, of Anderson, is chief justice, and Hoke Robinson, of Co lumbia, is clerk. Second row, Paulette We Girls' Debating Held Yesterday Co-ed affirmative debating team frmm the College of Charleston met the negative team of the University of South Carolina in a discussion of United Statcs neutrality in the Clariosophic Literary society hall Thursday, April 4, at 5 P. M. Fran cis Goldberg and Rene Shifly rep resented,the visiting team and Mary Dixon and Alice Glominiski spoke for the University. An open forum was held after the regular speeches, with an audience of more than 50 students and guests taking part. Refreshments were served by the Hypatian Literary society, with members from the Euphrosynean society assisting. Elizabeth Bird, president of the Hypatian, presided, andl Irene LaBorde, member of the dlebating council, introduced the speakers. After the debate and social hour, the four debaters, and the two members of theo ther Charleston team, were entertained at a supper at the home of Miss Labordle.
