Phi Si-gma 0.. NORINE HUEY JULIA SMITH Withering News By Jeanne Withers PHI SIGS SWING g Lil Elmer, grab your gal and beat it to the Jefferson Hotel where tonite the night for the Phi Sigma Kappa's formal. All week the cleaners men have trekked to the tenements burdened with tuxs, etc., etc., etc. And "Joe", the guy in every house who finances his brothers to the dances, yet never goes himself, is bemoaning the sight of his empty wallet. Poor Joe. But happy the rest of us. Yes, "Tonight's the Night!" * After a hard-fought battle with appendicitis, Emily Brown is back at'-the grind again. We all missed you, Emily, and some people are still asking Dick how soon you'll be home, just from force of habit. Lucile Crosby slung her formal over her shoulder and headed Georgia-ward last weekend for the ADPi formal. And this week Jean Timmons, Betty Locke, and Frances Meeks will follow their team to Clemson while Edie Ford and Lucy Jowitt travel to Wake Forest. 0 The boys who wear the snake have gone mad, over-guess what! No, dot Hedy Lamarr or Baby Snooks, but chess. They sit ifor hours, pondering one move. But Johnnie Crews has thrown a monkey wrench (a la Professor Merriwether) into the works. With cries of, "Unfair" and "Corrupt bargaining" he is st4ging a "sit down" strike. The neighbors, who have suffered from insomnia for years are wondering how long this unprecedented quiet will last. ITTUM AND ATTUM 0 Pat Jeter is going to Beaufort for a wedding. Don't worry Caro Iina males, it isn't her own. -The Mess Hall's and fistics are attracting Sally Scarborough, Lydia Lee and Maxine Forbes this weekend. Maxine will miss her chum, Kat Edgerton. 0 The ZTA' pledge class chose as their officers: Mabel Flitter, pres ident; Carolyn Croxton, vice-president; Mary Frances Montgomery, sec retary; and Hety White was reelected treasurer. Their big sisters filled the vacancy left by the graduation of Cathryn Webster, vice-president, with Evelyn Burnett. Bunny Scott's tea for the Pi Phi's last week was great, and Leola Garety's "at home" for the ZTA's Will be tops this week. The revuOry in Sims Wednesday night was the party thrown for the ADPi's by their mothers. A roaring (literally) time was had by all, as the gals and their dates played gaies, the noisy kind. STri Delta's Mary Desportes will sponsor for Jimmy Hambright of Rock Hill at University of North Carolina's German. Sponsoring with Mary will be Life's Cover Gal, from BriarclifT. Also going are Anne Adams and Katie Beatie. 0 The Furman German boasted the presence of Edith Tinsley and Serina Forman and Laury Hicks. TRAVELING - - - - N9T SALESMEN * Sat. P. M. there descended upon Rock Hill a delegation of Sigma Nu's. Art Spaulding, Sam Reynolds, Lex Durham, Dan "Fresh" Hen derson, being said delegation. C. Trhey socialized at the dance and banquet wvith the rest of the delegates. * The Phi Sigma Kappa's are housecleaning. They want this pro claimed from the tallest steeple in Columbia. Quoth one Phi Sig, that' news aroundl this place. Could their company of last week, Lieut. Pau Summerall, from Wa'sh. State U. and Walter Broom from the U. of Ill have caused this? Members flew out of the (door, and furniture out o the window, and Jack Reese, Arthur Spitz, J. B. Witherspoon, wer deluged with mops, brooms, and pails of water, as they returned fron the D)uke-N. C. basketball game. * The Sigma Chi House is quiet this week, as its inmates put thei best feets forwvard for the benefit of Dr. William Henry McLean. Di McLean, who hails from Chicago, is Grand Tribune of the order an comes every year with the robins to inspect the chapter. * There wvas a lot of Conversing (credit Polly Leonard) 'last wveel endl. We forgot some in last wveek's issue, so, amid blowvs and impreca tions, we add these names: David Traylor, Everett Baker, Grad Lemnond, Dick Jeffries. Let us tell you a little story about Grady an the boys. Cominig back from the dance, the generator on the car la dlown on the job, the lights wvent out, and the little prom trotters spel the night out on the lonely road. And wvas it cold!! T lhey still stuttt when they talk. * Then some more cute people migrated for the midwinters at de; Ole Clemson. They were Lii Boulwar,e, Ruth Easterling, Lois Ewar Ann Welch, Marion B3allinger, Amelia Arthur, Ethel Rhodes, Beti Welchel, Jimmie Simpson, Jack Johnson, Horace Traylor, and D; H-ollis. The last ttvo started to "thumb" their way at 4 o'clock in ti afternoon and got there at 2 the next morning, just in time to see ti last couple walk out of the hall. Tchl, tch, better luck next time, boy Maybe you'll get there for "Home, Swveet Home". JOKE * We have a joke. At }east wve think it's funny. Blame the Corn Widow, not us. Frosh: I just brought home a skunk. Roommate: Where ya gonna keel) him? Frosh: I'm gonna tie him under the bed. Roommate: What about the smell? Frosh: He'll just have to get used to it like i did. GREEKS, ETC. * Some lowly pledges will become real Greeks this wveekend. ' Sigma Chi's are slapping their pins on Guy Castles, Ellis Island ('sce Please, Allen), and John McMillan.
