Misfortune Cast Of A Door Falls On Technic From Many Falls; Leg "If the members of the eas hearsal, "Captain Applejack" says Prof. Ml. G. At each practice something new be falls one or more of the cast. "I've heard of funny things happening back stage," said Professor Christopher sen, "but the off stage scenes of "Captain Applejack" are really trag ic." In the first place, so many of the actors are supposed to be killed in the play itself that most of the cast is wearing blue whelts, gotten from trying to learn the art of fall ing correctly after the death blow has been struck. Julian lennig and Vil Ham Dworkin, double casted as Mr. Pengarde, are both just big blue spots. Each character has to be cast in so many roles that the make-up staff is almost (lead with making up play ers, then tearing them down and making themi up on an entirely dif ferent pattern. To add to the rest of his troubles, Professor Christophersen, almost found himself minus a scenery expert, when he dropped a door on the head of Carolyn layes. The lump has aimost gone from the stage artist's head, but she still draws up into a knot when the director pats her head as a reward for some excellent work. Ambrose Applejohn (Dick Ander son) got so worked up while re hearsing that he bent his trusty sword's blade with several vicious cuts through the ozone. I fowever. this won't happen again as the stage manager has procured a stouter blade for Ambrose. Ward law, director of the news service. Doctor Taber's interview inaugu rated a series of programs at 'station WIS to be known as "Know South Carolina". The feature is presented every Wednesday morning with some outstanding South Carolinian leading the discnssion. In the discussion Doctor Taber re viewed the complexity and variety of South Carolina soils, mineral de posits, and the water supply of the Piedmont and coastal regions. le pointed out that the Piedmont pro vince comprises only about one-third of the state while the coastal plain covers nearly two-thirds. South Carolina is blessed with an abundant water supply, lie said, with shallow wells providing good water. Along the coast artesian wells may be obtained in many places. the geologist concluhded. The service operates in cooperation with the South Carolina Art Pro gram, a project of the federal Works Progress Administration. Robert Armstrong Andrews is di rector of the department. Exhibits stimulating art appreci ation and instruction are available to all schools and institutions. Material will be sent upon re quest to aid in establishing art programs in school curricula. The fund is collected by degrees and in the past, has found its con tributors generous. A committee has been appointed to solicit the active members of the local chapter. Then resident members of 25 different chapters represented in the state are asked to contribute. University of Wyoming students last year spent $64,500 in membership dues in student organizations. $23, 373.75 was for national dues, pins and initiation fees.
