foetet, Lepue To Carolina Students Purpose Of Lecture Is To Inspire Interest In Scientific Research Dr. E. Emmet Reid, emeritus pro fessor of Organic Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University, will lecture to the chemistry students of the Uni versity of South Carolina, Wednes day, Oct. 25. In his lectures he hopes to inspire greater interest in scientific research and investigation. Dr. Reid, a scientist of note, who retired three years ago, annually makes four trips of one week each, and during that time visits eight col leges. Every school pays $100 for his traveling expenses and steno graphic fees, but at the end of the trip, the school is usually given a one-fourth refund. Interested only in research, Dr. Reid, maintains a laboratory at Johns Hopkins. He is an agent for the United States Government, the Du pont Chemical Laboratory, and the Herculean Powder Company. "It is there that the iitermost problems of a student's heart are revealed and cleared up." Among the leaders already secured for the week is Dr. John W. Rustin, Washington, who will lead the con vocations. Doctor Rustin is a very gifted speaker who never fails to hold the complete attention of his audience. Lester to Speak Miss Muriel Lester, famous social worker of London, England, will lead one seminar in discussing the sub ject, "How to Find Help to Live the Way We Should." Miss Lester has traveled all over the world and has written many books in defense of the Christian point of view. She has had an exceedingly interesting life. Her experiences and knowledge will be of great interest and benefit to many students. Other speakers during the week will be Mrs. Grace Sloan Overton, Washington, D. C.; Dr. John W. Rustin, Washington, D. C.; Dr. Walter H. Judd, Montclair, N. J.; Roswell Barnes, New York City; N. C. McPherson, Nashville, Tenn.; Miss Ernestine C. Milner, Guilford (N. C.) College; Francis Harmon, Jackson, Miss., and Dr. Carl Heath Kopf, Boston, Mass. Doctor Bader, who will represent the national Christian mission on the campus, is general secretary for the World Convention of Disciples of Christ and is on the staff of the Fed eral Council of Churches. Never before in the history of the University has such a group of world famous lecturers and Christian lead ers been gathered together at one time on the campus. The purpose of this "speaking choir" is in interesting people in interpretation of poetry and becoming "poetry-minded." The first meeting of this group will be helo in the Clariosophic Hall in Legare College, Thursday at 4 p. M.. The organization is to be modeled after the famous speaking choir of Wellesley College, under the guid ance of Mrs. Hawkins.
