E. Norwood, professor of English at the Univer sity, in an address to the Hypatian literary society last Wednesday after noon. Contrasting the democracies of England and the United States, Dr. Norwood stressed British lack of flexibility and rigid adherence to es tablished rules and customs. A stu dent for three years at Oxford, he related incidents in which lie caused the most profound consternation by arriving late for appointments and by returning to school after the gates were locked for the night (at 9 :20 p. in.) "On the average, the English are more brilliant conversationalists than Americans", the professor pointed out. "That's probably because they talk more than we do. We seem to feel there are more important things we could be doing than talking, and we may be right" he said. As examples of British humor, Dr. Norwood told a number of British jokes, and looked quite surprised as his audience laughed. While in Eng land he became converted to tea drinking, but still thinks the English are hopeless failures at coffee-mak ing. Before Dr. Norwood's address, the following girls were initiated into the Hypatian society: Madeline Krom wuller, Lorraine Campbell, and Eve lyn 'Williams. Positions were secured by drawing numbers corresponding to a room in the group. The large corner rooms were drawn by Delta Delta Delta and Alpha Delta Pi. On the wing with the Delta Delta Deltas, in order from that room are Delta Zeta and Pi Beta Phi. The kitchen to be used jointly by these three sororities is adjoining, and a general living room for all girls is centrally located. The same ar rangement is followed on the other side with Z. T. A. and Clhi Omega in order from the corner. These three wvill share the kitchen adjoining the Chi Omega room. Sororities will draw for choice of rooms each year, and will have the privilege of retaining the rooms they now hold, unless another group draws a choice above theirs and wants that room. U*R (' Repledging, Regulations "No girl is to be allowed to take part in any contest representing the sorority unless her name is either in the active or pledge roll." This rule was unanimously accepted by the presidents of all sororities at a meet ing last Friday afternoon. Mrs. Childs discussed regulations governing repledging with the group. It was announced that no sorority al lows a girl to be pledged more than twice. Mrs. Childs stated that if a girl was pledged for the second time and if at the expiration of that pledge was still not eligible for initiation, the girls' name would be dropped from the sorority roll in the office of the dean of Women.
