Tennis TrackstE Little Scores Most Points Clemson Wins Meet Clemson Gets Six Firste, Carolina Takes Five, And Furman Two Carolina's track team just missed win ning the state meet by one point last Saturday night at Clinton. Clemson came out ahead by a 46 to 45 score in the meet. The Carolina Biddies walked away with the freshman meet the day before, lead ing the field with 50 points. Clemson's Cubs were second with 41. Dick Little won the cup for individual high scoring over Carter of Clemson by 3-4 of a point. Carter and Little were tied for first place just before the mile relay, and Carter would have won had not Clemson's relay team been disquali fied for a foul against Carolina on the first lap of the relay. Fletcher Spigner placed first -in the javelin throw, Henson first in the pole vault, Little first in the broad jump and the two dashes; Lipscomb, Taylor, Knight, and Craig also won places for Carolina in various events. Defeat Caro lina's Baseball Team Last ' Week f Coach Dutch Stamman's hopes of c bringing a baseball title to Carolina a turned toward "next year" as the Game cocks dropped two contests this week to eliminate their chances at the Palmetto championship. c Erskine's Seceders came to Columbia f last Saturday to score runs galore and e nose out the Stammanmen 9 to 8, loose fielding by the Gamecocks paving the way t for the visitor's rallies. Doing the hurl- e ing for Carolina was right hahder Ca- n pers McCravey, who allowed eleven hits to the boys from Due West. TI?e Game cock attack mustered eighteen bingles off the slants of DuPont Smith, but the outcome was decided by the ragged field ing of the hometown lads. The Carolina attack was lead by J. B. Henson, Big Durham, Van Edwards, and John Burns, slamming out three hits each. For Erskine, Brown was the leading slug ger and reached McCravey for three hits. Smith of Erskine struck out nine Caro- r lina batsmen during the course of the t contest, while McCravey was only able to send the third strike past one batter. By the overwhelming score of 11 to 1 Presbyterian College trounced the Game cocks last Wednesday at Melton field, i Chick Galloway's boys walloping Caro- t lina's Louis Tabor for a total of thir teen base knocks, and capitalizing on the Alphonse and Gaston style of fielding ex hibited by the losers. 8 Big gun Banjo Williams, Carolina C shortstop, proved to be the only one who could solve the delivery of left hander b Suggs, lining out a double and two singles, and crossing the plate once to save the Stammanmen from receiving a washout. Newberry came to Columbia yesterday to engage the Stammanmen. Saturday the Gamecocks will travel to Clemson to meet the Tigers in their second combat of the season, the Stammanmen emerging as victor in the initial meeting by the score of 4 to 3. Several men have already entered their ames for the meet, and others are ex ected to make their entries before the :art of the contest. Among those who ave entcred arc Charles Myers, Sam 'rice, McCree Clark, Teddy Black, Bob icCrady, Ted Brooker, Jerry Hughes, id L. T. Lawson. Individual medals will be given to the inners in each event, Mr. Crawford iid. Similar awards will be made to ~cond place winners also if this can be rranged. Entries to the meet may be made to fr.
