Track Birds Beat State Wolves Upset Favored Team Carolina Flashes Tight Defense To Keep State Men From Under Basket Carolina toppled N. C. State in an important Conference basketball game in the Field House last Monday night by a score of 30 to 23 The .Gamecocks began fighting with speed. and power from the first tip-off, and never let up during the entire game. At the half they led by one point, and after . the intermission the Birds slowly began to pile up a lead, which amounted to ten points near the end of the game, and was reduced only by desperate long shots that the Wolfpack let go from the sidelines and the middle of the floor. Carolina's defense, a feature which Coach Petoskey stresses a great deal, kept the opposing players from under the basket, and most of State's points were the result of long shots. When the second period began, Carolina caine back stronger than ever, and began to pull away from the visi tors, and never lost the lead. N. C. State seemed to lose the spirit that had held them even in the first half, and seemed contented to push shots at the basket from the middle of the floor. -U. ". U.
