Honor Code Is_Changed Regarding Blue Book Students Will Purchase Bool And Turn Them Over To Pro fessor According To Plan Changes in the method of securin examination books are outlined in ti following open letter issued by tl Joint Honor Committee: "Student Body and Faculty: During the first ten days of eac semester the instructor in charge wi infc' m the members of each class to the approximate number and kin of Blue Books required in each cours during the semester. Every studet will purchase from the Book Store tl number indicated and turn them ov< to the instructor, who will file thet away and dispense them to his stt dents as occasion arises. "The Joint Honor Council wishc to call the attention of the faculty t the new procedure in the handling c Blue Books, and to ask you to cc operate by collecting from each stu dent during the next ten days an ade quate supply of such books for th semester in each class. "The Book Store will sell the quiz size books at four for a nickel, an the examination size books at two fo a nickel, but during the first ten day of each semester only. This con centrated buying will obviate the nc cessity of extra help at the Book Sior We believe most instructors will fin' the smaller-sized books adequate fo all purposes. "The Honor Council is of th opinion that this method will meet th objections preferred against the for mer plan, and we hope you will ap) prove the change. In short, The Mlarine Corps is look ing for outstandling young college men whom it can train in p)eace times andl dlepend upon time of wvar. In cidentally. the Mlarine Corps Reserve is not subject to strike or riot duty. unless the President proclaims a national emergency. In return, The Mlarine Corps offers a military education which assures the ind(ividual of a good b)illet in time of wvar. Instead of having to enlist or be dIrafted, he will be called into service as an officer in the most famous miii tary organization in the world. He will fight side by sidle wvith other of ficers selectedl with the same care and stud(iousness. The enlistedl men under him will also b)e found to b)e of a su perior type. The Miarine Corps does not enlist anyone who is not a high school graduate. The enlisted reserve is composed of ex-service men and carefully selected civilians, many of whom are college or professional men. In all cases their families aind their standing in the communities where they live have been investigated before they are accepted. A more tangible b)enefit, of course, is the summer camp, with pay. Recreation (luring the training period is well taken care of. There are free movies, sight-seeing trips to WVashington and Miount Ver non, plane hops, dances and athletics, It wVouldl be a serious omission noi to point out the inestimable value ol the two training periodls as enlisted me. Slide-Rule Sage Rides Again Discovers Queer Facts Wisconsin's Calculator Figure That Cigarettes Would Save Coal r'or University r Madison, Wis.- (ACP). The Und versity of Wisconsin's "Slide-rule Sage." who gained national prominence by calculating that Badger co-eds use enough lipstick in a year to cover a barn, is making his rule say queer, things again. Aldro Lingard has discovered that the university heating plant would use 2:3 tons less coal if cttioen t tmeked in the buildings. (The fire hazard bans smoking.) Ninety-one per cent of the heat value would come from cigarettes and the remainder from pipes. Doing soni more serious "sliding," Aldro found that IBadgerites spend '-1,000 for cigarettes and $9,500 for pipe tobacco a year. "Most people," he said, "take about 12 ipuITs per cigarette. and the averagt a volume of a puff is about .2 cubic inches.
