Natttrally, there have been many criti cisms of this plan, one of thte chtief ob) jections being thtat many conscietntions students did not feel it thlei r dItty to sigr - a pledge in which they agreed not to cheat themselves but, also,, to report an~ dishonorable action ont the part of their classmates. Is it not reasonable to con elude that withtoutt the second part of this pledge, there could be no effective carry ing out of thte honor system? It is ad. mnittedlly a difficutlt (duty to report one's classmate; however, the whole honor sys tern revolves arountd this one point and without its heing upheld, thte entire sys tern wottld collapse. Within two months after this pledge was presented, the past year, 238 stit dents had sworn to support it. In ac * cordance with its provisions, a committee was elected and the code putt into opera * tion. In due course of time, a number of reports were submitted to the committee of faculty and students. This joint group took decisive action on all eases, four con victions being made. We firmly believe that the signers of this code were in * earnest and determined to carry out the points of the pledge.
