TEACHING JOBS OPEN FOR U. S. C. GRADS Many requests for teachers from the University are coming in to the Bu reau of Appointments, according to Dr. Orin Crow, dean of the School of Education. "The superintendent seeni to like the way we are handling the choosing of people whom we recommend for jobs," Dean Crow commented. Contests for the Gonzales oratorial medal will be held Monday evening, May 11. The Kit oratorical contest will be the following Wednesday, and the Sylvan debate award Friday even ing. Speeches will be made in the 2lariosophic Society hall before judges. All students are eligible to compete, the only requirements being an origi nal speech of not more than 12 min utes duration. Some of them are an inch in :liameter, and they often obtain a si ength of 30 feet. co 0 Penny Gives Lecture On Bird Slaughter The last carrier pigeon in this State vas probably killed by Archibald Rut edge in his boyhood days, about 1897, Dr. Penny declared recently in an ad lress on Sesque-centennial Animals >ver the School of Air. The pigeons, Dr. Penny related, vere once so numerous that they often larkened the sky for an area of sev ,ral miles.
