German Gives First Dance Follows Clemson Game Initial Hop Considered One Of nest Ever Staged By Dance Club The German Club gave its first ball of the season October 24, the night of the Clemson game, in the gym, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Dave Burnside and his orchestra furnished the music. Leading the grand march was Pete Coggeshall, president of the Club, with his partner, Martha C. Withers, assisted by Oliver Hart with Mary Lee Blakeley. The Junior-Senior fig ure was led by Edgar Sullivan, senior leader, with Evelyn Plowden, and Robert Bruner, junior leader, with 'Henrietta Bailey. Members of the faculty and their wives were chaperones. Before the German, Kappa Alpha entertained with a tea dance from 6 to 8 o'clock at Ridgewood Country Club. The ballroom was decorated with the fraternity colors, old rose and gold, and members of K. A. wore red carnations in their lapels. Dave Burnside also played for this affair. Chi Delta Phi Elects Members Must Write Short Papers Honorary Sororiety Meets At Tri-Delt House Monday An open meeting of Chi Delta Phi, honorary English sorority, was held at the Tri Delta house Monday after noon, with Mary Verner as hostess. The purpose of the meeting was to elect new menibers hIto the club. All girls interested in writing were invited to attend and submit short papers which are pre-requisites to membership. Some of the Phi Sigs wore hunting clothes, and national guard uniforms, while the girls appeared in gypsy and pirate outfits. The rooms were decorated in orange and black with stacks of corn shucks in the corners. Lighted pumpkins were placed in the windows. After a turkey raffle, dancing was enjoyed by about fifty guests. Cider and apples were served by members of the fraternity. "Bring An Egg" Party Another unusual party was given by Delta Zetas Saturday night. Each member was instructed to bring eggs and bacon for her date and herself. Eggs, bacon, toast, and coffee were cooked and eaten by the party. Initiation Kappa Sigma announces the initi ation of Clark Reed, Chicago. The initiation took place in the Clario sophic Hall, Monday night. Golddiggers? The Tri Delt pledges have suspend ed their golddigging for the more lu crative pastime of lawn digging. Goad ed on by their big sisters the pledges have at last shown signs of honest labor. Phi Kappa Sigma Alpha Eta chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma will give their annual Thanks giving Ball November 27, in the Blue Room of the Columbia Hotel. Buster Spann and his Gamecocks will furnish the music. Banquet A banquet was given by the mem bers and alumni of A. T. O. in honor of Stewart Daniels, executive secre tary, Friday night at Bihari's. The province chief, Johnny Vann was present. Z. T. A. Drop-In All fraternities were invited to a drop-in given by Z. T. A. at the home of Betty Jane Sovacool, Wednesday night. Chi Omega The three new patronesses of Chi Omega are to be honored with a tea in the near future. They are, Mrs. Frank Welbourne and Mrs. William J. Keenon. Chi Omega pledges entertained the actives with a party at the chapter house Wednesday night. Newly elected pledge officers of Chi Omega are as follows: President, Ida Lorton Graham; secretary, Mil dred Ward; and treasurer, Myrtle Hair. To Clemson Among the lucky girls who will go to the Clemson dances this week end are Ida Lawton Graham and Bess Dowling. The initial Tiger Ball will be given Friday night. The walls and ceiling of the gym were decorated with streamers featuring the colors of both schools. During the evening there was a spe cial no-break for the Clemson students and another for Carolina students. The grand march for the sponsors was led by Miss Betty Wrenshall of Ashe ville, N.
