In the past Carolina has put out a large number of good boxers and sev eral champions. Harry Wolfe won the Southern Conference heavyweight title several years ago when the Southern Conference included what is now the Southeastern Conference. "Red" Watts, in the light-heavy class, duplicated Wolfe's feat. Last year Bill Humphlett, captain of the boxing team andl winner of the Gittmian nmedal, fought his way to the finals where he lost by a decision. Played at the gala Orangeburg Fair and seen by 8,000 yelling fans, the game greatly raised the Gamecock's status in the state race. This was Carolina's largest win since 1925 and made seven straight victories for the Gamecocks. The Carolina team is to be com mended as a whole but as usual, Col onel Clary was the Bird's outstand ing star. He was pressed closely for honors by Jack Derrenbacher who celebrated his return in the game after being out from injuries by mixing him self in every Citadel play. It was this same player who caught the wee Mc Credie from behind when he was in the clear on returns from kickoff on two consecutive runs. He was also a great bulwark of defense. Bob Johnson, Carolina's all-State end who has been playing average ball this season, burst forth in a blaze of glory to break up every Bull Dog play that cane near him and it was not an uncommon thing to see him run atounnd and get the runner from the other side of the line. Paul Gaffney and Ossie Bramlett kept the center of the line intact while Ernest Stokes kept up his great play ing which he started in the N. C. State and Davidson games. Both teams made eight first downs but Carolina made 204 yards from rushing while The Citadel was only able to pick up 128. Citadel threw a total number of 18 passes without completing but 7 of them for the sum of 60 yards. Caro lina did not try but four passes, two of them being conipleted for only 4 yards. The only lateral pass of the game was attempted by Carolina who de rived 14 yards fom the effort. R. C. A. VICTOR RADIO LATEST RECORDS R. E.
