Punch and cookies were served to about seventy-five guests. James Timmons gave a smoker at his hohe on Kirkwood Drive Thurs day night. The last rush dance of Sigma Chi will be held at the chapter house, to morrow night. Phi -Beta Delta Sarp Rubin was elected president of Phi Beta Delta at the first regular meeting of the year. The other of ficers are: Vice;president, B. Polia koff; secretary, J. Berman; treasurer, C. Berman. The social season was formally opened with a party at the chapter house. About seventy-five were pres ent, including alumni actives, pledges, and freshmen. An informal dinner was held by the executive committee and alumni, Mon day night, in honor of Irwin Kahn, National Representative. An informal banquet was held in honor of Morty Cohen and Julien Ness who were initiated into the fraternity Wednesday. PiK.A. The Pi K. A.'s opened their rush season with a series of house dances last week. Thursday night, a group of members, pledges, rushees and their dates went to Lakc Murray. Boat riding was followed by a party at Nat Turner's cottage. The Pi K. A. will have an informal dance at the roof garden of the Co lumbia Hotel, tonight and a dance at the fraternity house Saturday night. Jim and Bustcr Mayes of Mayes ville were recent guests at the P. K. A. house. Peic Smith and Fred Hambright of Spartanburg were here for rush season. Kappa Sigma Bob and Rufus Hoover, transfers from Wofford,,have affiliated with the local chapter. A banquet for rushees was given Wednesday night at the Friendly Cafe teria, with Werber Bryan acting as toastmaster for the occasion. A dance was held at the Kappa Sigma house last night, and the mem bers and rushees will be guests to night of Mr. and Mrs. Winchester Graham at their home in Shandon. Service Club Holds_Meeting Eight Members Join Tom Crawford Makes Welcoming Address To New Corners The Carolina Christian Service Club held its first meeting of this session last Wednesday night in Flinn Hall with approximately twenty old mem bers present. The following new stu dents joined: Helen Ladd, Margaret Harper, Sara Hathcock, Mary Cul bertson, Virginia Fuel, Dorothy Brain lett, William Brockington, and West brooks Finlayson. Tom Crawford, president of the club, made an address of welcome to the new members, and urged the vice presidents to begin their activities at once. The vice-presidents who pre pare programs and carry them to va rious institutions in Columbia and the adjacent vicinity are James Lynch, Mary Sutton, Leonard Greene, and Morgan Arant. Westbrooks Finlayson, baritone, rendered a vocal solo at the meeting. The Carolina Christian Service Ctub meets every Wednesday night at 7:15. --U. 3. O. Invites Seniors To Join The South Carolina Education asso ciation is offering an opportunity to all the members of the senior class of the University to become active mem bers of the association by establishing what is to be known as "Junior Mem bership." Junior Membership in the association is valuable to seniors who are candidates for graduation front all four-year colleges in this State, said membership to entitle them to all privileges of the association except that of voting. The dues for Junior Mem bership will be $1 per year. The purpose of establishing 'this Junior Membership is to acquaint seniors in our colleges, particularly those who are expecting to teach, with the work of the State association and to put into their hands during the year "South Carolina Education," the official rogan of the associaiton. The First Baptist Church is enter taining in the recreational hall. Dr. John H. Webb, pastor of the church, is taking charge of furnishing students with transportation to the hall. The cars will be sent to the girls' dormitory. Methodist students will be enter tained in the recreational room of the Washington Street Methodist Church. There will also be an e.ntertainment at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. All students from the University, Columbia College, Columbia Bible Col lege, and business colleges are cordial ly invited.
