Gas ranges have taken the place of the bulky coal stoves, a special oven for biscuits, an electric toaster, potato and fruit peelers, and many other ad ditions to the kitchen have been made. The steam counter which last year extended down the entire side of the room on the kitchen side has been di vided in the middle, providing direct passageway to the kitchen from the dining room. Something like 25 students are em ployed as waiters. The diners this year are at present tonsiderably above the average of last year. .-u. U. 0. Lockwood Appointed To S. C. Education Board Charles M. Lockwood, superinten dent Olympia high schools, has been named a member of the South Caro lina Education association. Mr. Lock wood will be remembered by students here for the prominent part in the activities of high school week at the University last year. He was ap pointed by Governor Johnston. Childs succeeds Elliott As Dean of Women Mrs. Arney R. Childs was recently appointed dean of women at the Uni versity to take the place of Mis. C. B. Elliott who held that position for scv eral years. Mrs. Childs is a distant cousin of Doctor Childs, newly appointed pro fessor of history. She will also be associate professor of history. The new dean is the widow of D. A. Childs of Columbia.
