"The Ninth Gi Defy E 4 Play Promises Action University Players Will Present Murder Mystery Under Ste~ phans Direction No matter how good any of our local theatre-goers arc at guessing the murderer in mystery plays and movies, they can rest assured they will never suspect who "The Ninth Guest" is in the play of that name when it is presented here for the first time by the University Players under the direction of Prof. Rene Maurice Steplian at Drayton Hall on the evening of May 1C. After careful observation, Director Stephan has cast the play as follows: Mac Maner, Rudolph Warner, Tom Rogers Drake, Herbert Shrieber, Gladys Gaskin, Joseph Cohen, Jack rortriun, Margaret Simpson, and Alfred Browning. Dot Piatt, Virginia Casque, and Kliza Hunt are the house committee; Sally Railey and Ann James have charge of make-up; Helen Hell and William Rufort Mabry arc technical directors. Nine people are assembled in the Bienville Pe nthousc through the request of a mysterious telegram each receives. When the guests arrive, each finds that all the others are the particular people each hates the most? and tlien a mysterious voice conies in over the air and each one is informed that lie or she will die before morning. They all try to escape only to discover that they arc prisoners without a chance of getting out. And then, death begins to stalk among tlieni. "The Ninth Guest" is two hours of blood-curdling chills and just about all the thrills and excitement any audience can stand in one evening at the theatre. As the local public has always had a distinct fondness for mystery drama, "The Ninth C.uest" should prove one of the most popular attractions of the season. Charles Collins in the Chicago Tribune commented: "I found it so engrossing that I departed without my galoshes." U. R. O.
