Game * * n. c. st i Beat State Final Game! Clary Gets Two More Gamecocks Come To Life In Last Quarter To Increase Two Point Margin Two brilliant runs for touchdowns by Earl Clary in the last period added to Carolina's two-point margin over North Carolina State, and enabled the Gamecocks to complete their Southern Conference schedule undefeated and untied and with a big claim to the title. Carolina's victory was really won when "Bubber" Huskcy crashed through the State forward wall and tossed McQuagc behind his goal for a safety and two points for the Roosters. This score was made possible by the Carolina punters who put up a marvelous exhibition of accuracy in kicking out of bounds with long-distance boots. With Mauncy and Wolf doing the punting The Wolfpack was constantly having to kick from their own goal line. Finally Wolf rolled a beautiful kick out 011 N. C. State's one yard line and on the next play Huskcy started Carolina off on a decisive win by downing the Wolfpack back for a safety. Not content with this the Gamecocks proceeded to show that they deserve titular consideration by putting on a flashy offensive, scoring twice and threatening on other occasions. The first touchdown came whefi the Birds took a punt on the Wolves 40. Clary went 11 yards for a first down on the 30 as the third quarter ended. Mauney gained five and Clary picked up one. With the ball resting on the 24 Earl Clary started oyer left guard, shook off several tacklers dodged a couple more and evaded the safety man to cross standing up. The attempt for extra point failed. Late in the game Clary intercepted a pass and returned it to N. C. State's 38. Hambright picked up 7, and then Clary turned on his Ghost stunt again. This time too he went over the left side sidestepping and shaking off several tacklers to cross the goal with State House Pharmacy Phone 9151 1007 Main St. DRAUGHT BEER AND WINE We Deliver Open from 8 A. Clary for All-Southern It is a well known fact that outstanding performances on the gridiron when the leaves are turning brown are far more likely to be remembered when all-star teams arc being picked than any turkey day performance, though places are clinched on that day. Capturing public fancy, the star of the opening game coasts through an indifferent season to a lead in ballots cast. Which brings me to my subject. Off to a poor start, Karl Clary, by stellar playing in the last several games has pushed himself forward as a leading contender for All-Southern honors. Scoring seven touchdowns against such teams as V. P. I., Citadel, L. S. U., and N. C. State, he is now second leading Southern Conference scorer, and certainly one of its most outstanding backs. Conference Title Now that the Gamecocks have successfully disposed of all their conference opponents, it is only natural that we should put forth a claim to the Southern Conference title- Playing two of the three teams picked to lead in the race, there should be no dissenting voice raised to this claim. u. m. o. nobody near him. At other times the Roosters were halted, once with one yard to go for a score, and another time with three to go. A few other less golden opportunities were thwarted by the hard fighting N. C. line. Early in the second quarter Wolf took a punt on his 48 and returned it 32 yards to the opposing dry-voters 20. lint passes failed and the ball went over. The little * Gamecocks will line up except for two changes just as they have for previous games. Overton at end, who is suffering from injuries, will he replaced by Hunter, and Jeffcoat, who is sick, will find his place filled by Finlay. The team will consist of Johnson q and Hunter, ends; Robclot and Gaff- ? ncy, tackles; Turner and Roberts, \ guards; Tomlin, center; Reynolds, quarter; Taylor and Finlay, halves and Derrenbacher, full. Furman'fe frosh have already won jy three games over Wofford, Weaver Junior College, and the strong Georgia jyj rats, and are favored to win their fourth game from the small but scrappy Chickens. Outside of its titular aspect the game ' will be outstanding from the viewpoint in of the many stars engaged. Each team ca claims several of the best players ever th< to attend either school. For Furman there is Stevens, one of th the best if not the best punter that of Furman has had for many years. King at end is a brilliant prospect to equal Ec or even surpass the great flank work th; of the famous Dan Wood. Burrell, a m; tackle is one of the brightest promises let in recent years. The Biddies will not be without their otl quota of luminaries. At end they pre- de sent Johnson, 175 pounds, who has starred in the Biddies two games thus Ri far, and promises to become one of tci Carolina's greatest players of all time, te; Gaffney and Robelot will fill the mi tackle berths and if they live up to pre- M vious standards will fill them right. Both have proven a thorn in the flesh inj of all opponents during high school and this far through their first college year. ^ The Game biddies are small as a whole but have lived up to the customary fighting qualities of Carolina freshman teams in years gone by. They usually enter their games the f? underdogs but this has proven of littlje benefit to their enemies. ga u. ?. o. ? ga Pullet Feathers i" By Amelia DesChamps J fr; Here we go 'round the mulberry bush, te? Work so far has been for the purpose of getting the men in condition, no gloves having been used as yet. ' v There is still a great need of more men to try out for the various weights. A great opportunity to win a letter exists in every division. In some weights ; there is only one man out, this being particularly true in the heavier classes. Several men from last year's intramural contest, among them Douglas, Lloyd, Farnum, Rubin, who showed promise of developing into first class fighting men, have not reported. Walter Taylor is working for the heavyweight berth, filled last year by Johnson and McManus. These men will probably be candidates again. An effort is being made to draft several men from the football team, promi inent among them being Tom Craig and Wilburn Clary. The presence of these men would add much to the power of the team.
