P Who', Who I' ANNIE LAURIE MITCHELL Annie Laurie Mitchell has shown a true spirit of service on the campus. An excellent student of journalism who 1 is planning to make newspaper work her life job, she gave up her chances to do work on the student publications, both The Gamecock and The Carolinian, by accepting her election to the Board of Publications. Besides representing the Hypatian Literary Society on the Board, she has held every office given by the society with the exception of the vicepresidency. She has been successively marshal!, monitor, recorder, treasurer, secretary, critic, and she is now the president. She was also junior orator last year. She is secretary of Chi Delta Phi, literary sorority, and a member of Alpha Kappa Gamma, leadership organization. She is a member of the co-ed Glee Club. U V. s. c. CHARLES F. DREXEL "Fritz" comes from North Augusta, Aiken County. As an obscure stranger he entered the law school. With persistent hard work and ?n ever sincere attitude towards his fellow students, he has attained much in accomplishments and secured many friendships. His career commenced here when he became a member of the Clariosophic * Literary society. His fraternity is Sigma I . Phi Epsilon. He is president of the I "-p senior law class of '31 and of Blue Key. fe:/. | Phi Delta Phi, legal fraternity, put Drexel's name on their roll and elected him as historian. The student council " H functions with him as a member of that body. In June Drexel will get his L.L.B. degree and admission to the South Carolina bar. A paper "Adrelin And Its Uses was read before the members by Jacob Freed, who pointed out the good that has been accomplished by the use of the drug. This was one of a number of papers presented by members of the fraternity among which were: "The Discovery of Anaesthesia" by T. L. Lucas, president of the fraternity, and "Organization of the Medical Department of the Confederate Army," by J. P Cain. At the meeting last night, new members were clected to the fraternity. All bids to this organization are based on the personality, character, and scholarship of the prospective members. There are thirteen active members of the group at present. Since the election of the new men was decided to hold the spring initiation in the near future. Plans are now going forward for an open meeting under the auspices of the fraternity. Three boxes have been set up in or near the school by John Bolt Culbertson, who is interested in the work. A box has been placed at the: canteen, one at Burnett's and another at the College Shop. Mr. Culbertson has received a letter of appreciation for his help in the work from the officials of the hospital. They stated that a carload has been gathered recently and will be sold for the best price obtainable, the money being used to aid the hospital. W. C. A. council to attend an informal treasufer-hunt and picnic combined, which has been planned for Thursday evening, March 19, to take place at Barron's pond from 6:30 to 9:30 P. M. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Bell have been invited as chaperons. The constitution of the Hillel Club, an organizatioh formed to promote friendship between Jewish students of the University, was read at the regular meeting qf the club at the Sunday School room of the Tree of Life Synagogue Sunday night at 8 o'clock. Plans for a dance to be given by the club were discussed, and will be definitely completed at the next meeting. The organization plans to have prominent men come to Columbia to address it at open meetings from time to time. Mr. Webtser is one of the most famous modern painters, though his work is not "modernistic" in the general sense of the word. H6 has a big art school in Provincetown, Mass., where Miss Marshall, of the University Art Department, studied for several years.
