IhePoliticalPotl -By Romulus Reese With the close proximity of the election, some of the candidates have reversed their stand and do not seem to care to have politics aired in this column. In fact, certain candidates made efforts to have the election changed to Tuesday. The obvious reason for this was to have it before the students could read The Political Pot and find out who was running and why. The writer had expected more op position to this column than has evidenced itself. The fact is that the approval of it has been almost uni versal. This latest move came as quite a surprise in political circles and on the campus. The only reason a candidate could want an election pulled before The Gamecock could get before the stu dent body would be that there was something about him or his platform that would not hold water. e The writer wants to reiterate his jstatement of earlier in the year that .he intends to give facts and opinions cas he finds them and he doesn't care c who's toes he steps on doing it. vs It will be noted that there is a change in the makeup of this column 9this week. The insertions between _ paragraphs are campaign cries of the various parties. Carolina Offices for Carolina students! The battle for supremacy of the campus is at hand. Two mighty jungle beasts are crouched ready to spring. The Tammany tiger and the Clemson tiger, as The Gamecock goes to press, are making their final prep arations. Three times already, the felines have met. The Tammany tiger was caught asleep on the first occasion and the felis from Clemson combined with the Green Street machine and went rough shod over him. Then the cat from Tammany arose in his wrath and drubbed his enemy into the dust in the battle for political ascendancy in the Euphradian. Once more the Bengals met and after a fierce battle split offices in the Garnet and Black. Down with Tammanyl The Euphradian election was the biggest walkover seen on the campus in the memory of the oldest politi cian. The Tammany tiger switched his tail a couple of times, growled lustily and stood glaring, daring any one to oppose him. From president to recorder, there was not a dissent ing vote. Only once was his power challenged and that was in the elec tion for the student board of publica tion. In that, a candidate for student body president was defeated. This victory makes Tammany supreme in both societies. Vote straight Tammany, And you will vote for Carolina! The Garnet and Black was the most fiercely contested affair held on the campus in the present coon's age. As usual it was pulled without warning. The Clemson tiger, it seemed had been working for some time; but the feline from Tammany scented prey the night before the election and came cavorting to the scene. Needless to say, a battle royal ensued. When the votes were counted, the honors were even. There were many interesting side lights to that election. A new system of getting votes was introduced by a freshman coed who stuck by the polls for a greater part of the day showing the boys how to make the wise choice. Harry DePass finally put an end to the damage she was doing by resorting to the old prehistoric cus tom used by cave men and taking aforesaid coed away from the polls by main force. But wait-that is not all. He proceeded to put MIle. under lock and key until the ballots were well on their way to being counted. Harry's venture succeeded only after several successful attempts to carry her to the movies had failed. Look out Drufe, or Harry will usurp your place among the ladies by cave man meth ods. You gotta step. Vote for. the UinholyCity And you will vote for the best men! The writer has reviewed the week as far as elections are concerned; he will now discuss what the various parties have been doing and -how they are progressing. There have been some shifts in the lineup. The Clemson tiger has come to occupy a major place in the politi cal firmament. Political opponents have tagged this name partially 'on what the writer formerly called the Unholy City clan and partially on an independent ticket. The writer con siders his contribution much the best, but the hot air sessions on the campus insist on using the other-so there is no choice. Along with the rise of the Clemson tiger, there appears to be ever growing in importance, the old familiar figure of the Tammany tiger which has graced the campus, for better or for worse, since the days of Bill Morrison, Furman Gressette, Mims Hall, Donald Russel and a host of other famous political leaders of the campus. The shadow of this slinking beast has caused a tremor to run thruout the spines of many as piring politicians. Tammany leaders are claiming that they intend to up hold the constitution and support only men who began their career at Caro lina for the campus offices. Several of the most powerful men on the campus constitute the leaders of the Wigwam forces. The Green Street machine threw a scare into the various presidential camps when there was an effort to nominate a coed. The nomination, however; was about eighteen hours late and does not count. The coeds were no doubt following the old dormitory tradition of being late for dates. .WHY CAMELS Camels conta; ...expertly and Afragranc They have a w that you willJ Smoke them as tire your taste.
