The Very Idea! By Bill Gaines (With more and more profuse apolo gies to the readers for this attempted substitution. Bill Gaines is still sick.) This is the last issue under the edi torship of J. Rutledge, of the best col lege newspaper in deah ole Souse Caro lina. Each successive editor has done his bit to build the Gamecock to the present enviable standard. Rutledg^ has played his part well. It wont be long now until the paper is a daily with no misspelled words and each head line will .remotely convey some idea of the reading matter to follow. Be lieve it or not. Hey ! Hey l Public and other fare subsclibers to the Weakly Form Jour nal. Did you know that the flying craze has at last hit this staid old campus. We have been explicitly in structed NOT to mention any names, dates or other incriminating bits of evidence-but they can't keep us from gloating over the fact that Carolina has a student aviator. The voting birdman has had about four and one-half hour had had about four and one-half hours in the air prior to his coming to Co lumbia. Recently he has been taking instructions under "Chick" Stile, the French Ace who is the owner of the plane tsed for commercial purposes here in the city, and our aviator has a total only nine hours in the air and is aledy making solo flights. Personal l e think it's a neat bit of magic; i.e. n ing a Gamecock into an eagle. 1"d're a better man than I ai. Hunk.d vJ * * * * A serious epidemic of examination; due to hit the campus sometime Fri ay. The doctors prescribe closes of eavy reading in the library to make le disease less painful. The best loses are Beverly Nichols' "Star Span led Manner" in which the talented Englishman gives his impressions of such representative Americans as Hen ry, Lindbergh Big Bill Thompson Gloria Swanson and Anita Loos. An other one is "The Bishop Murder Case" by S. S. Van Dine a mathematically solved murder. It is needless to say that these books won't help you out with Anglo Saxon 680 or Calculus 99 and of course they are not in the lib rary-But does it matter? * * * * The annual is getting under way fast. Last year Carolina had the hig. e:. and best book in the South. With hearty co-operation it should agai't take first place. As to the pictur:v Look natural even if it does show that Darwin was right. * * * * We too have our opinion of people who harp on certain subjects. Con tinual harping is the priviledge of arch angels alone. Nevertheless we pausc to say that SOMETHING should be dlone about this Gamecock-Carozwan Office business. Crowvson Printing Co. has beeni very kind in allowing the two staffs the priviledge of using their of fice h ut the conditions uinder wvhich the staffs work are not conductive to the turning out of the best wvork pos sible . In spite of the noise;: dirt and confusion J. Rutledge sreceeded in putting out a Gamecock that took first p)lace as the best college newspaper in the state. Co., Richmond, Va. Dear Friends: I have been a very heavy pipe smoker for the last thirty years, and have always used Edgeworth To b lacco (Plug Slice) andl find there is no other tobacco like it for a cool and well flavored taste. I am in the vaudeville business, and have traveled all over the world with my brother, and always have had very great pleasure in recommending your tobacco; and many a time I have had to pay double the price in different sountries for it, but I wouldsooner do that than smoke anything else, as I have tried all different brands. I generally buy a one-pound tin and roll it up; and believe me, gentlemen, it is real'tobacco. With best wishes from Yours sincerely, Sam La Mert of the La Mert Brothers' Piano Novelty Act.
