Carolina substituted Boineau for Wim berly, Boineau for Zobel, and R. Stod dard for Rogers. Chicago made about a dozen substitutions. Carolina made 7 first downs and Chi cago made 7. In the first quarter Chicago kicked off to Carolina, Zobel returned the ball to his 30 yard line. After failure to gain, Zobel punted to Chicago's 15 yard line. An exchange of punts and series of line bucks of both sides put the ball on South Carolina's 9 yard line. Wimberly went througe right guard for 5 yards. Zobel punted out of danger to Chicago's 15 yard line. From this time on South Carolina played a safe defensive game, mostly in Chicago's territory, while Chicago re sorted to aerial tactics to try to over come the Gamecock's lead. These were broken up by the alert Wimberly and C. Beall. Wimberly intercepted a pass and the half ended with South Carolina hold ing the ball in mid-field. Chicago kicked to Wimberly, who made a good run, returning the ball to his 39 yard line. The Maroon line be gan to weaken at this time and rein forcenients were sent in. C. Captain Weislow, of Chicago, was removed from the line up at the same time. Carolina had the ball on its own 38 yard line ,as he period ended. In the last quarter Chicago went wild and made a maroh, from -her own 20 yard to Carolina's 39 yard and in desperation the Maroons tried a pass which was intercepted by Beall. This stopped the only threat Chicago made against Carolina's goal line. Zobel then punted out of bounds tn Chicago's 8 yard line. Mendenhall tried two long passes from behind his own ggal in a frantic effort to score. The game ended with Chicago holding the ball on her own 8 yard line. The backfield has been trained to show speed and smartness, and to keep its eyes open and body in action.
