The scor, was 90 1-2 to 35 1-2. The meet wa fast and interesting throughout. Th Gamecock's were handicapped by th loss of Bob Thomas, stellar hurdler who had a bad ankle and was force< to remain out for the day. Not many of last year's state chant pionship team are back at Furman Hammett graduated last year and hi place is being filled by Lawton am Gibson. Both run the hundred an( two-twenty. Gibson also runs on th, relay team. Ezell turned in a 2.06 half in the P.C meet and he and Jimmy Cooper shoul have a merry battle in that event. Vincent, a sophomore, is one of th< outstanding milers in the state. Hi fastest time is 4:43 for the four-lap run Captain M. 0. Boyce is slated to bat tle him. In the weight events, Carolin; appears to have a slight supremacy Magill, Carson, and Brewer will b hard to displace. In the other events, little is knowi of Furman's strength. Bococlifs men are ending the season a great deal bet ter than they began it. Auburn, Furman, and Erskine all in a row. 14 EFTY GODSHALL, hurling his first full game of the season, let the Seceders down with four scattered hits Wednesday afternoon. The Union boy- twirled good ball during the entire game. ONE OF THE prettiest fielding plays of the season was the catch of El lis, Auburn outfielder, when he speared Nolan's drive and literally robbed him of a triple in the sec ond game of the Auburn-Carolina series. He was forced to leap so high in his hurried pursuit of the flying sphere, that he turned a complete somersault while landing. The fans gave him a generous hand. 'ITIE NORTH1 CAROLINA State track meet was replete with thrills. Probably the finest was the sprint of Marion Boyce to win the mile run in 4:49. Tom Magill gave the spectators a scare when the visi tor's shot putters had the edge on him until the last two throws. Tom won the event by shoving the iron bar ball three feet further on his last attempt than the nearest competi tor. -usc Bocock's Men Even Series with Auburn Carolina evened the series with Au I burn Saturday by trouncing the Plains men 8 to 4. This was the second con ference loss of the season for ti.e Tig ers, they having lost already to Flori da. Both teams played in-and-out base ball, but the Gamecocks made fe%ver errors, and exhibited clearer -cut team %vork. Mike Windus, Sally. and Rogers were the leading Carolina hitters. Windus got two singles out of four trips to the plate, while Rogers got a hit out of two official chances. Rog ers' ball was a long hit to deep center field, the fielder throwing the ball wild and allowing the Gamecock captain to cone home. 0 Two double plays were handled by ithe home team. In the second inning, E. James'singled. Wallace hit to Rog ers who sent the ball across the dia mond to first putting Wallace out but letting James go on to second. Instead of stopping on second, the Tiger cat cher continued running and was tagged out by Nolan at third. In the fifth, F. James hit to Lamar who touched second, thereby forcing Ellis. and then threwv to first to nab the hitter.
