Dedicate Y Handbook To Prof.- Stoddard Gamecock Replaces Old Rooster -To Be Sent to Freshmen in Septsmbers-Others Later Work on the "Y" handbook of 1926 W is progressing rapidly, and a con siderable amount of the necessary writing has been finished. This publication will be dedicated to. Prof. J. A. Stoddard, and will be divided into sections for the various subjects. Though no radical changes iave been made in its makeup, it will be ne-fourth inch wider than previously, nd the binding will be of white leather: The front, moreover, will be stamped vith a red gamecock, not with a de ected looking rooster. Though published primarily for reshmen this book contains handy nformation for all. It will be sent o freshmen in September, and to up er-classmen soon after they reach the -USC xhibition Is Given By Art Department The results of the first years' funct oning of one of Dr. Melton's fondest lreams, an art department at the Uni ersity of South Carolina, will be ex tibited for several days beginning next 'aturday. Dr. Melton's two music rooms with he design class room will be used to lisplay the work of the students of les gn, and the three rooms and the iall on the third floor of Flinn Hall will be covered with paintings done in Miss Heyward's classes this year. There has been an enormous amount f work done in this first year and un er tremendous difficulties. I)r. Mel ton, from the beginn'ng of his term s president of the University, looked oiw.d to establishing an art depart ent here, and was determined to ecure the best instructor possible. ven though he had to wait a year or wo to get her. The space and equipment has been imited because of the lack of the funds nd unless some better arrangement is tade before next year. many students ,vill have to be turned away, because f lack of working space. In spite of he cramped con(litions the atmosphere as been great this year and it would een that the University is on the oad to having the best art department n South Carolina. This is the big affair of the year and w'ill he bigger this year, in all proba aility, as the other soc'ial affairs have ieen curtail. Supper wvill be servedl at the ball, which i-ill last until sunrise. A large number > f guests are expectedl from all parts f the South.
