RECEPTION HELD BY CLARIOSOPHIC SOCIETY Newly Elected Officers Honored --Girl. From Clhicora and Columbia Attend Tuesday night the Clariosophic liter ary society honored its newly installed officers with a reception. The reception was attended by an interested crowd. of Co-eds, C. C beauties and the regular members of the Society. The old hall smiled with joy at the pretty faces of the visitors and the sweet voices. Calhoun Thomas, the president, de livered an address of welcome to the visitors. Bruce White followed with a declamation. R. M. Smith and Toni Wofford delivered witticisms. The Query for the debate was Resovled: That the word "obey" should remain in the marriage ceremony. C. W. Scott and Guy Tyler upheld the Affir iative and were opposed by Lee Crocker and J. V. Neilsen on the Neg ative. The Affirmative won but the Negative declares that the decision was unfair as three of the judges were masculine sex against two young lad. tes. After the program the Society turned under the head of a reception while ice cream and cakes were served. The Society adjourned, for the boys at least, all too early. -- U.S.C. - PYRAMIDS HOLD FEED AT JEFFERSON HOTEL Three members of the faculty were guests of the Pyramid club Wednesday night at a banquet given at the Jeffer son hotel. The supper is an annual affair, and is the first of a number of social events to be given by the club. Profs. Hodges, Stephan, and L. L. Smith, honor guests of the evening gave short talks. Dr. Smith explained some of the activities of clubs at vari ous schools. He also pointed out the possibilities of such organiations at Carolina. Prof. Stephan recounted some of his experiences in American schools. Prof. Hodges concluded the talk given by the guests with an as sortment of jokes that put the meeting in good spirits. The president of the club closed the discussion by pointing out the object and ideals of the organization. Offi cers of the Pyramid are : J. R. Smith, president; Jack Allison, vice-president ; Ocey Butler, treasurer; and, Tom - U.S.C. - MISS WOFFORD SPEAKS TO LEGION AUXILIARY Program Arranged in Observance of American Education Week Held at Woman's Building The November meeting of the Ameri cani Legion Auxiliary was held in the Woman's College Wednesday a fternoc on. The p)rogram arranged was on educa tion--in kceping with the observance ofI American Education wveek. Miss Kate Wofford, presiden1t of the State Teachers' Association, w~as the p)rincipal speaker of the evening. At the close of her address she wvas presented with a bouquet of chrysanthemums by Joan Reynolds. Col. A. H. Scarborough, superinten dent of the state p,enitentiary, dliscussed( the need of a new plant. He urgedl the ailiary to aid the penitenitiary authori ties in securing one. fl'he addresses wvere followed by a musical program which was given by Mrs. Robert L4afaye, assisted by Mrs. Carl Seminer at the piano. Punch was served by the following co-eds: Misses Claudia Bailey, Ellen Hough, Annie McGill, Elizaheth John son, Gladys Young, Inez Wooten, Louise Smith andl Mary Carter Barnwvell. FACULTY HOLDS RECEPTION FOR NEW MEMBERS BY UNIVERSITY AUXILIARY Dr. and Mrs. Melton in the Re ceiving Line at Woman's Building Tonight Tonight in the Woman's building the University Auxiliary will tender a re cepton to the new members of the fa culty and their wives. In the receiving line will be Dr. and Mrs. Melton and the honor guests: The reception is intended to bring together the members of the faculty and their families who have come to the University during the last two years, with the members who have been at Carolina for a longer time. Within the past two years the faculty has increased considerably and some of the newer members of the faculty cir cle have not had the opportunity of meeting the families of the other pro fessors. An informal reception will he the form of the entertainment for the evening. Mrs. Henry C. Davis, chair man of the committee in charge, and Mrs. E. M. Rucker, president of the Auxiiary will pour tea and coffee. Co eds will assist with the refreshment.:. The Auxiliary is composed of the wives of the professors, the women professors, and all women connected with the University in any official capicity. Its purpose is to pr9mote the interests of the University, especially the girls. The faculty wives have as sisted at theY.M.C.A. and Y.W.C.A. banquets. They have also furnished chaperons for the University dances. - u.s.c. - EUPHROSYNEANS HAVE PRESENTATION OF PLAY "Terrichon's Journey" Main Item On Wednesday Afternoon Program of Society The presentation of the play, "Terri chon's Journey" was the main item of the program of the Euphrosynean so ciety Wednesday afternoon. The fol lowing girls made up the cast: Cecil Wolf. Minnett Hanna, Gladys Lawton. Margaret Livingston, Helen Daniels, Gertrude Rigley and Mierl Vaugh. Miss Lilly Cate, chaplain of the so ciety. read a selection from the Bible. This was followed by an impromptu speech given by one of the members of the society. Plans for a party sometime next week were discussed by Miss Louise Dukes, anid it is probable that arrangements will he made for next Wednesday. Anyway, that's what Rittenberg tries to tell the Euphradians. The speaker, in his weekly oration, relates all the unnec essary things men have to put up with, whercas, were they only bachelors life would be so easy: no rolling pins, no hat pins, and no safety pins. As extemporaneous speaker, Cuttino kept the audiance in an up-roar. Of course it was only Charlie's little pep py stories that made them all laugh so. "Bob" Hodges gave a series of current events which gave even those who read the newspapers a bit of informat ion. The regular debate of the evening was Resolved: That the United States should enter the World Court. Collier and Hentz upheld the affirmative while Bussey and E. H. Zeigler de fended the negative. A large number spoke from the house, showing a great amount of interest in this present day topic. The affirmative was victorious by a large majority vote from the house and by a unanimous decision of the judges. - U.S.C. - MEETING TONIGHT OF FRESHMAN COUNCIL The Freshman Y. council meets to night for the third meeting. At the pVe sent there are about 20 on the council. The plan is to increase the membership to about 40 men before the year is over. Any Freshman who is interested in the spiritual program for theUniver sity Campus is urged to see the Y. sec retary, any member of the Freshman Council or Bill Boyd and talk the mat ter over with them. The officers of the Freshman Council are: Bannie Stewart, Chairman; Drufus Griffin. Vice Chairman; Harold Funderburk, Secretary.
