FEW DOLLARS
STILL LACKING
IN "YM." DRIVE
Over $1000 in Pledges and Money
Turned in-Some to Report
Late
MOST SUCCESSFUL YET
Hall, Stevens and Swink Win Prize*
For Highest Points
in Drive
Only a few more dollars are lacking
before reaching the goal that was set
out for at the beginning of the "Y"
financial campaign last week. This has
been the most successful campaign
that the Y. has ever had, due to the loy
al work of the men who were on the
committees to see the men of the cam
pus. So far over $1,000 in pledges
and money has been turned in.
Some men on the campus were not in
their rooms when the canvass was made
and the finance committe hopes to see
them this week so that the total asked
for by the Y. may be realized. "Red"
Hall of Tenement 17, brought in the
largest amount of pledges and Stevens,
of Tenement 7 brought in the largest
amount of cash. They, together with
Marion Swink, whose division brought
in the largest amount of pledges will
be given prizes that were offered by
Kinard, Marshall-Tatum, and Copeland.
These merchaAits are interested in thi
work of the Y. and kindly offer-i n
give these prizes to show their interest.
Some few of the canvassers have not
made a complete report to date. Mr.
Scott, the treasurer of the Y. says that
he is sure that when the full returns arc
in, the Y. will havethe money that will
insure a real Rrogram for this year.

Y.MC.A,-That of Being
Self-Supporting
Money was the main tdpjc for discus

Melton Hall Monday afternoon. Plans
for canvassing the campus and town

This year. with a large number of co-eds
on the campus, the cabinet decided to
designate one week as "Fivancial Cam

RECEPTION AT
"C. C." DRAWS
LARGE CROWD
STREET CARS CROWDED
200 Attend-Faculty and Girls in
Receiving Line, 10 o'clock
Comes too Soon
Poor motorman, his life was a misety
on the 7:45 car !ast Friday evening I
To begin with, the College Place car
was filled to overflowing with Carolina
men going out to C. C. to the annual re
ception given by the Y.W.C.A. of that
college. The little buzzers were kept
going constantly and a member of the
hand began to play a rag time tune on
the bell in the back.
Arriving at the college, the men, 200
strong, were ushered in and went thru
a receiving line of the faculty and a
number of the girl. It was only a few
minutes until all were paired off and
started strolling around or found cozy
Dlaces in the many parlors or "retreats."
The Columbia College orchestra play
ed for over an hour and then "Rat" Hoi
lis took up the burden and had large
crowds around the piano for the re
mainder of the evening.
Some harbored vague hopes that the
big clock in the reception room would
fail to buzz at the stroke of ten, but
no such luck. The 10:30 car brought
hack to town a quieter but happier group.
