CONSTITUTION OF THE U] The student body of the University of South Carolina in order to provide for the regulation and conduct of its affairs adopts therefore this constitut ion. ARTICLE 1 Members. Section 1-All regular matriculates of and candidates for degree in the University, shall be members of the student body. ARTICLE 11 Officers and Elections Section 1-The officers of this body shall be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and i Honor Commitee of the senior academic class together with the combined honor commiteeof all the classes. Section 11. Each class shall elect its officers in the spring for the following year on the day five (5) weeks, next, preceding commencement day, elect ions to be effective with the opening of the succeeding session; provided however, that all classes save the ris ing senior class may hold their elect ions within two weeks after the date fixed by this section. Section III-Student body officers shall come from the rising senior aca demic class in so far as this section is consistant with section- 1 of this Ar ticle and the said class shall constitute all junior academic students who ex pect to be graduated the following year. Section IV-The term of office shall be from the opening of the session through the final commencement day. ARTICLE III Duties of Officers Section 1-It shall be the duty of the President to preside over all meet ings of the student body, to announce the business before the assembly in the order in which itis to be acted on, to inform the assembly, when neces sary, on a point of order or pratice pertinent to pending business, to counsel the freshman class concerning UNI Offers Belts Co-Ed Be Al OF THE STUDEN VIVERSITI OF S( its due organization, and to be therep resentative ofthe student body in all matters where such is needed. Section 2-It shall be the duty of the vice-president in the absence of the president to preside. In the absence of both the president and the vice-president the duty of presiding shall devolve npon the Trea surer. Section 3-It shall be the duty of the secretary to transcribe in legible form the minutes of meetings, to in sert properly all amendments to the constitution and by-laws, to notify of ficers, committees and representatives of their appointment,to assist the pre sident in advertising meetings, and at the expiration of his term of office to submit his books to the incoming sec retary. Section 4-The Honor committee shall be regulated in its functions by the already established rules of the honor system. ARTICLE IV By Laws Section I-Student body meetings are held after permission from the president of the University, and then only for such purposes as shall be spe cifed. Section 2-The rules contained in "Robert's Rules of Order" shall- gov ern the student body in all cases where they are. not inconsistant with the constitution and by-laws of the student body. Section 3-Business may be trans acted by a majority of those present. Section 4-Proposed amendments to the constitution and by-laws shall be submitted in writing to the student body and shall require three readings, no reading geing closer than three days to the next, and a two-thirds vote of those present being necessary to carry the third reading. Section 6-Notice of coming elect ions shall be published' not later than two days before time for the same. Section 7-The May Queen shall be elected the second Friday in April, the coronation to be held during the first week of May Section 8-The cheer leader shall be elected from the student body the sec ond Tuesday of May, his election to be effective during the secceeding ses slon. Section 9-Within ten days afteh the last game for the seasion of the res pective sports, the student body shall nominate four men from the rising senior class for the managership of the particular sports, the names of which shall be sent to the advisory board which shall select one. At the same time the student body shall nominate eight men from the rising sophomore or junior classes, at least two shall cooperate with the manager in the furtherance of the special dep artment for which they are named. Section 10-This constitution shall be published not less than once each year in the Gamecock, and at a time during the early part of the first term. Section 11-This constitution shall become effective upon the beginning of the 1925-26 session. Section 12-In the event it shall b_ necessary to elect a substitute for any of the officers herein provided for the student body shall exercise its discret ion. 0 Section 13-During the second week of October of each year the student body shall elect three of its number to serve with two members of the fac ulty, to be elected at the same time, on the social cabinet. Section 14-The constitution and by-laws shall not be suspended.
