EASTER DOM University Club EASTER GERMAN NEXT THURSDAY. The annual Easter German, one of the most looked forward to social events of the collegiate year, will be danced in the University Gymnasium Thursday evening April 16th. The Gym will be decorated in the school colors of Garnet and Black. Member of the faculty and their wives, together with many of the prominent men and women of the city will act as cheperones. Music will be furnish ed by Warner's Seven Aces of Atlan Ia. The officers of the German Club are Toots Causey, president; Tom Brice, vice-president ; Jack Cantey, secre tary; Enmmit Howle, treasurer; Blake Edmunds, senior leader and Tom But ler, junior leader. - u.s.c. - EASTER PARTY AT 17" WEDNESDAY. The new officers of the "Y" are starting off their administration right by giving a big reception at Flinn Hall, Wednesday night from 8 to 10 o'clock, to which the entire student body and faculty are invited. Notices are being put up on the various bul letin boards so that students may in vite Chicora and Columbia College girls also. Johnnie Pate is chairman of the "Y" committee which will have the arrangements in hand. Mrs. Har ry Davis is chairman of the committee from the faculty which will have charge of the decorations and refresh ents. She will be assisted by Mrs. C. Coker, Mrs. E. M. Rucker and rs. R. M. May, in INATES SOCIA Literary Societies "LIT." SOCIETIES MEET JOINTLY. The joint meeting of the two socie ties was the feature of the regular ieeting of the Clariosophic society Tuesday evening. James Hicks was appointed chief narshall' for .theo Michigan debate, which was held Wednesday evening. Before the Euphradians came over, the following literary program was car ried out: Crain declaimer; W. -A. Dennis, current events, and W. L. Croc ker, orator. Hendrix, Castles, Bass and Bouk 'night were on for the impromptu de 1>ate. The prepared debate was dispensed with on account of the lateness of the 1iour. - U.S.C. EUPHRADIANS HAVE GOOD MEETING. The E.uphradian Society held its weekly meeting in the Fuphradian Hall Tuesday night, the meeting being the first in two weeks was rather inipor tant, an(l quite a large number were present. The president, Cecil Harris, presided. After some important pre liminary business the literary program began. Current events were given by, W. R. Busbee, and A. H. Caldwell. Zeigler gave a declamation entitled, "In Death There is Life." C. Wittkow sky also declaimed, and had as his subject, "Death of Lafayette." J. B. Pruitt was the exporaneous speaker and gave a good talk on, "A Laundry Run by the University." The debate for the evening was, "Resolved, That Compulsory School Attendance Bill be Passed." The affirmative was repre sented by Cuttino and Polier, and the negative by DeLorme and Felton. A committee from the Clariosophic Socie ty was, inviting the luphradian So ciety to convene in joint session. The remainder of the program was dispens ed with and the society adjourned to the Clariosophic Hall. The purpose of the joint meeting was the election of a Marshall for the Michigan-South Carolina debate. - U.S.C. - EUPHROSYNEANS HOLD ELECTION. The Euphrosynean Literary Society held its regular weekly meeting Wed nesday afternoon in the Euphradian Hall. The purpose of the meeting was the election of officers for the ensu ing term. The result of the election was that Miss Margaret Lancaster of Columbia, was elected President; Miss Sarah Wise became the new Vice-President; Miss Virginia Wau chope, Secretary; Miss Dorothy Ree ves, Critic and Miss Virginia McSwain Treasurer. Immediately following the election of the newv officers, Miss Anna Swindell made her ex-augural address, and the new officers wvere installed. The rest of the meeting was in charge of the newly elected officials. - U.s.c. - IEngineering Notes PORTLAND CO. 'SHOWS FILM. On Tuesday and TIhursday the Port land Cement Co., gave exhibition en titled "The Manufacture of Portland Cement," and "Anatomy of the Con crete House," for the benefit of the engineering classes. The student body is invited to ano ther exhibition which is illustrated wvith films and will be held Tuesday morning at 8 :30 o'clock. The titles of the films to be shown are: "Pines for Profit," "Dual Purpose Trees," andl "Pines from Seed to Sawmill." The projecting machine has been made to comply with the City Underwrites by recent safety appliances. Prof. Rowve is nowv securing posi tions for the graduates of the Engi neering School. The engagement of Miss Maude El lis, special student at Carolina and president of the Co-ed Glee Club to Marion Ashton DuRant, a senior at the Columbia Theological Seminary, was announce(d at a party given in Clin ton last Friday by Mrs. W. A.Moore head. The wedding to take place in June. Among those who accompanied Miss Ellis to the announcement party were the following from the Woman's Build ing: Misses Ellen Hough, Virginia Doar, Isabel White, Virginia Utsey and Mrs. W. A: Middleton, matron. Miss Ellis, a talented singer, was the winner of .thlie schL4arship givenby Maurice Matteson to one of the glee club members during the first senies ter. Mr. DuRant is fron Alcolu and af ter his graduation from the seminary next month will enter the Presbyterian ministry. - U.S.c. - On the afternoon of Friday, April 24. the visiting women of the State Federation of Music Clubs will be en tertained with tea at the Woman's Dormitory of the University. Deat Irene Dillard will act as hostess. Dean Irene Dillard is in Indiana polis attending the convention of the Association of University women. Miss Delle Evans was called to her home in Augusta Sunday because of the illness of her sister. Miss Anne Coleman spent the week end in Charleston. Mrs. J. H. Phillips, of Belton, spent the week-end with her daughters Mis ses Catherine and Elizabeth Phillips. Miss Elbertine Durr spent the week end in Shandon with Mrs. Dunn. Miss Edith Knight, of Winthrop Col lege, spent Sunday with Miss Thelma Burgess. Miss Virginia Utsey leaves today for her home in St. George where she wlil spend Easter. Miss Eleanora Beasley leaves tomor row for Lane where she will spend Easter. Miss Loria will be the guest of Miss Beasley. Miss Ellen Hough leaves for her home in Chester tomorrow to spend Easter.
