CAROLINA DEFEATS DEACONS 7 TO 0 (Continued From Page 3) THE STARS. Captain Frankie Meyer, J. C. Long, Blake Edmunds and om Brice were the Carolina Seniors in the game. Long has another year of varsity ball but the quartet played the most brilliant game of their careers. Edmunds was injured early in the fray but had put up a won derful game. The whole Carolina team played in brilliant manner and the suc cess is due every man who wore a Gar net and Black Jersey. Ellenton, Arm strong, ;Ellerbe, Pag)no an4 Captain Moran were the Deacons best bets and the whole team did some good tackling and defensive work. Red Dobson of Furman has been selected by a majority of "all to aone" as guard. There has been a vari ance of opinion as to other selections. Since it is an "open season for argu nent" this writer wishes to join th< swelling chorus on the song "How Did You Get That Way" directed at the cou ple of coaches and one or two sports writers who failed to consider "Oui Frankie" good enough to make him un animous choice for "All-Star End:" When the sports editor of The Wash ington Post in discussing with National ly known experts learned from then that "Meyer was the greatest end it the South" and yet South Carolina dopes ters couldn't put him on their team w< rise to suggest to these gentlemen thal South Carolina is a part of the "Solid South." THE GAMES LAST WEEK. The final games of the season rar very true to form on Thanksgiving Day with one exception (according to the view point taken by some of the wisc ones), that being 'the Carolina-Wake Forest game. The day before the game an Asheville, N. C., sports writer pre dicted that scoring of Rackley and Grea son against South Carolina would de termine which would be the leading point maker in North Carolina. A careful scrutiny of facts and figures on the Turkey Day classic on University field shows that neither Mr. Rackley, Mr. Greason or any of the other famed De mon Deacons scored aught against The Gamecocks. That game Thanksgiving Day was the best ever put up by a University of South Carolina team, some say. Others say it was the greatest of the season but none have denied that it was a great battle that Sol Metzger's proteges put up on his, last appearance as a mentor. However Furman beat Carolina and there were many who are still bemoaning that fact and who insist on taking glory away from this great coach. THE OTHER GAMES. The other great classic was the Fur man-Clemson game. Clemson came back aid put up a great fight. Furman was also in the battle and the predictions for a close score and a hard fought contest were carried out to such an extent that it took a field goal in the last three minutes of play to determine the winner -Furman getting the edge in the 3 to 0 score. Newberry and Wofford fought it out at Spartanburg and the Indians emerg ed the victors, 16 to 7. Down in Charleston the Citadel Bull (log and the Presbyterian College Blue Stockings put on the grand finale. Thir teen points for the Bulldogs were reg istered while Johnson's proteges in a hard tussle could not register a single point. Erskine fought valiantly and scorel 10 points which was good, but the 13 points made by the Tarheels was about threg points better. THE FOCUS CLUB CUP. The cross word puzzle as to the winner of the Focus Club championship cup was put up to a committee of three non partisan and out of the state graduates. They solved it by calling it a tie be tween Carolina and Furman, with each school to hold it six months. Carolina gets it for the first half-year, due to the graciousness of the Furman author ities, who had the chance to take the cup now or later. H'owever the solution of the cross word puzzle is not satisfactory all around and alumni of Newberry College have ut tered a strong protest. LOOKING AHEAD. "Looking ahead" the skies are bright. Every team expects to have a much better season in 1925 and it looks that .1ch will be the case. The prospects are that one of the most hectic football seasons will be fought out between the latter part of Septem ber and Turkey Day. ---U.S.C.
