My Look at my wife, Scourge of my life, Curse of mankind and me. She takes my money To be like honey And blasts my hopes that be. She is no blessing, For by her dressing She worries and ruins me. OMEBODY TOLD ME HAT On last Saturday night about twenty reshman Co-eds were entertained with "Rat Feast" in suite 316 of the Wo en's Building. The invited guests including only hose "rats" who were so gullible as to ay their hostesses, five upperclassmen, en cent each Saturday morning for pecial reservation's of much desired :hapel seats. The rats gathered in 'Seldom Inn" at nine o'clock and were velcomed with an extemporaneous and reatly interrupted address by Miss elle Evans, the disconnected theme of vhich seemed to be "green ribbons." Refreshments consisting of candies md cakes were served and later a pro ram was given by the hostesses. Misses Lillie Baker and Ellen Hough endered several delightful ukelele se ections. Miss Marguerite Johnson and iss Delle Evans debated the timeworm uestion," Resolved that it's more thrill ng to kiss a baldheaded man than a nan with a moustache." Both sides fur iished conclusive proofs so it was un nimausly voted that it din't matter so long as the "victim" was a man. Miss ouise Thomas closed the program with i address of warning to the lowerclass nen not to be "taken in " any more. The vent was greatly enjoyed by all present id was voted a success. Among those partaking of the hospi ality of Miss Thomas, Hough, Johnson, aker and Evans were: Misses Elber ine Durr, Clare Patterson, Annie Mae McGrady, Gladys Bell, Ann Coleman, Eitha Gerrald, Margaret McCall, Mary C. Barnwell, Lizzie Gary Craddock, Ida ohnston, Dola Roberts, Mattie Hnff an, Ella Davis, Irene Richardson, izzan Blackwell, Irene Shaver, Thelma urgess, and Lucy Flowers. THAT Anna was a typical tea hound Friday night and carried off her stunt as if she'd had plenty of practice as far as knowing how it ought to be done. THAT So far the library basement has been noticeably vacant and we wonder if it is because the "other door" is now left open. A FLAPPER AND FRIEND Crawford believes love is like a game of cards, with a good deal depending upon a good deal and a lot depending upon the kind of hands you hold. A flapper and her Nabisco Nibbler friend entered a local resturant here the other day, the flapper proceeding to order the limit of the menu at the ex pense of the Nibler's purse. Shortly after they had seated them selves, a couple of the steady type came in and took seats at a nearby table, ordering sandwiches and tea for their lunch. This so incensed the flapper that she turned to her friend and said "I wonder who those ordinary people are and what they can mean by coming to a swell place like thi at lunch time and order ing sandwiches and tea," in the one thoughtful mood of the month the "Nibbler replied," "I don't know who he is, but I'm sure she came straight from Heaven." O TICE Syou want to Isewhere, we v See John Pat4 The : UNIVERSITY Y. M. C. A. GIVES FRESHMAN "FEED" (Continued from page 1) bestowed upon him is to serye on the "Y" council. "If you ever feel homesick," "contin ued Mr. Smith, "go down to Flinn Hall and talk with Mr. Bell." And another thing I want to urge you all to do is to go to Blue Ridge at least one summer while you are in college. You'l remem ber this trip as long as you live." W. A. McSwaiai told of the great re sponsibility of the students in upholding the honor principle. As the 121 class at the university he urged' the men to keep the standard high. "Every man is a gentleman until he proves himself to be otherwise," concluded Mr. McSwain. Rising to the floor, Mr. Bell, "Y" sec retary, aimiounced the climax was reach ed. His subject was the campue course. Among the campus courses, he "slapped" were booze, gambling and idleness. He outlined the danger of these courses, not only to the indulgers, but to the boys who are constantly thrown with them. "The real campus course is what I want to recommend to you. The first consid eration is your actual clasroom work. then the sudent activities, including the literary societies and Y. M. C. A. work. You will get more out of college life if you put more into it." The "Big Brother of Carolina," Dr. Isadore Schayer, was the next speaker. In a way, peculiarly is own, he made a heart to heart talk-full of advice and warning to young men. "You are away from home now. You are free from your mother's apron string, and your dad's 'Don't do this'. You don't hear your mother's vioce calling to see if that is you coming in, or the silver haired dad to say, 'Better be careful son.' "You have your freedom, but it is the hardest, most difficult, possession you will have while at the universtiy. Be a gentleman as well as a man." Dr. Schayer told of the daAigers of liquor, gambling and immorality. "You can't beat the game-it will ruin your character- it will make a crook out of you." He told of many wrecked lives lie had come in contact with, and the sad words uttered-often too late- "My God I Why did I do it?" Short talks were made by Reese Joye, who had the cards passed around for the boys to join the "Y", and by Harold, DeLorme who will be Mr. Bell's assist ant this year. The singing of the Alma Mater con cluded the program. The supper was prepared by a com mittee of the University Auxiliary, wives of the faculty members, and served by 15 co-eds. The Carolina colors were carried out in the decoations and un shaded candles cast a cherry glow over the room. -U.S.C. Customer: "Can you tell me where I can get something to put a chicken in?"
