FRESHMEN LEAD FIGHT (Continued from Page One) cullty in stopping the Chicks. The spectacular mid-floor shots of Rogers. the unerring accuracy of Shumpert, the floor work of Wise and Mikell and the exceptionally excellent guarding of Seideman wotid have given them plen ty of trouble had they been looking for R-. Toohey was a whole salvo of big guns for the visitors, he rolled up 20 of his team's total of 27 poiints, enough in itself to win against an ordinary team, but the Papooses were not play ing an ordinary team. Carolina's teamwork was the best seen on the local floor this season, and the Birds seened to constondy im prove as the game progressed. Toward the end of the second stanza the Bid (lies had stopped trying to penetrade the visitor's defense and were scoring from mid-floor with seemingly impossi ble shots. The Newberryit,es were forced to take long shots 4hroughout the game in vain hope of catching the Carolina score, which stood at 22-15 at the end of the first period. Then. too, they were never able to ge under the basket due to the wonderful wark of one Silas Seidemann at stationary guard. Carolina had no individual stars, each and every man was a star and the playing as a whole was excellent. The Newberry Fresh thank their licky stars that the Biddies were no better.
