Fresh Caps Signify
Class Spirit
For the past several years a custon
has leen in vogue at the Universit;
of South Carolina requiring al
freshmen to purchase an( wear
Particular kind of headgear. The ob
Ject in wearing this head piece wa
to distinguish the freshies from th
upperclassmen, and at the same tim
to give them an opportunity to dis
play, in aln outward way, their loyal
ty and love for this great institutioi
of learning.
In the past it was left to eacl
freshman class tle privilege of de
ciding on the form of headgear the3
so desired. It was found that thl:
plan did not work so well. Las
year the student body decided tha
hence forth and for all times al
freshmen classes should wear thu
same kind of cap. The one chosex
is made of black material, with i

the beak. It is a very neat head
viece that can be worn at all times.
It saves the freshman a great amount
ow worry about deciding on which
cap to wear when going up street to
i meet his fair lady.
7 At Carolina the State law prohibits
I hazing of all forms. The students
i live up to this requirement in the
fullest. The freshies are not forced
to wear the cap through coercion
from the upperclassmen. The officers
of the freshman class form a coin
mittee which handles this situation.
The caps can be secured from
Mimnaughs at a very moderate price.
It is hoped that the new men will
not wait until their class officers take
action, but will secure.these caps and
have them all ship shape for the
first game of the season.
A loyal freshman wears his cap.
